Vinyl Me Please is running a Buy One Get One 50% off sale which makes their albums almost reasonable in price. Might pick up a couple.

Re: The VINYL Thread!
Anyone buy any RSD stuff yesterday? I went late (I was sick as hell all Thursday, and really had to weigh if I wanted to go out at all on Friday, but my head finally started clearing enough mid-afternoon to take a trip)
I got Olivia Rodrigo's Guts...Spilled. Been meaning to pick up the record for a while now, and decided why not splurge for the extra songs. Then at Record City, I dug through the small stack, walked away, and the owner saw me and asked "What were you looking for that you didn't find?"
When I told him The English Beat, he went into some secret stash and got me a copy. Which is cool, but I got the feeling he set that one aside for himself and I kinda took it from him. Especially since he raved so much about the record, and was also wearing a Specials T-shirt yesterday.
And just because I like to buy additional titles on RSD not on the "exclusive" list (as the stores make very little profit on those), I also added used copies of:
Queen - A Day at the Races
The Cult - Love
Pete Townshend - Empty Glass
Red Dye #5 (local band from the 90s)

No RSD shopping for me yesterday, though I've had my eye on The Doors: Live In Detroit for a while. Oh, well, money's pretty tight these days.
Paff, have you finally opened your Canadian vinyl ..?

Thank you. Going to try and limit myself to one purchase and keep it close to $50 but my cart is currently well above that.

I tried to hold it at just over the $50 free shipping limit but ended up at $80.

It’s a great sale. Had another 6 albums in my cart before narrowing it down. May end up going back next week after payday. I was already tapped out on personal fun money from the last one before hearing about it.
Going to bump the GNR Use Your Illusion thread because they have the best price on the select set i’ve seen.

Looks like https://shop.udiscovermusic.com has a similar sale, although they have CDs (some really cheap) as well. It appears they’re associated with Sound of Vinyl, but free shipping.

I'm still digital only but 2 of my teenage niece/nephews have discovered vinyl and absolutely love it. They raided Dad's old vinyl collection from the 60's 70's and early 80's at Christmas and walked out with 50 or 60 albums.

Spent the most ever on a single record (unless you include that Ramones box set from RSD a couple years back).
200 clams for Green Day's American Idiot. In addition to the regular record, there's a record of demos and outtakes, two live concert recordings, and two Blu-Ray discs.

I first looked at the image before reading your comment and asked myself "Is that a record cover or a pinball machine??"
Black Knight is regarded as the best pinball game of the 80s, if not ever.
ETA: The record is part of the RSD 2025 lineup, just posted on their website. Believe it or not, the one record I'm coveting most from the list is a live show from Thompson Twins. I saw them on that tour, and had only bought the ticket for the opening band, Berlin. But I'll be damned if the Thompson Twins didn't make a fan out of me with a very fun show.
I'll also get the live records from Ramones and Talking Heads, but those are lower priority for opposite reasons; the Ramones record is from very late in their career, when they were pretty much phoning in their performance. Joey would slur over the lyrics "...reeeeeeeeeebop". And the Heads' release is from '78, just songs from the first two albums. I'm still discovering their music, and I do find they got tighter and better as their career went on. I like the rawness of the early records, but I actually prefer the polish of their mid-career ones.

I think I might be heading out early on RSD to see if I can get my hands on the 2LP vinyl release of David Bowie: Ready, Set, Go!

Bowie performed all the songs from his upcoming Reality album back in September 2003 via satellite to theaters around the world (I was there at the Imax Theatre in West Edmonton Mall) and then held an interactive Q&A, answering questions from selected theater goers in various cities around the globe when the concert was over. A great concert and a pretty cool experience. One of the questions came from a guy a few rows in front of me.

Oof. Two weeks after dropping $200 on that American Idiot record, a copy of 39/Smooth shows up on the 'cogs for $60. Usually fetches around $100, so needless to say I put it in my cart. Early record, before Tre Cool was even in the band.

I know I fuck around sometimes when I say I don't listen to "soft ass shit" but some shit I can get behind, having also seen her live twice, is BANKS.
Her latest album hits in 2 weeks. I have the vinyl pre-ordered:

It's a brown color album. It says it's from the UK, but I don't believe it's an import -- otherwise the price would be double.

Be honest, Blu. Do her looks factor in to your appreciation of her?
Not judging here, not one bit. While I liked Olivia Rodrigo's more rocking songs, I still probably wouldn't have ponied up the cash to buy her albums had I not mentally pictured her flashing her underwear while splooshing on SNL...

Yeah, she's hot. Actually, an old ex of mine got me into her music with the first album she released and it stuck.
The same with people like Meg Myers (check out the dedicated thread) until she went insane and changed her look and sound for the worst.

Rhino just released the next two titles in their Rhino High Fidelity series: Black Sabbath's Paranoid and Alice Cooper's Love it to Death. Not cheap, but if you are interested I'd jump on them, they'll probably sell out soon (limited to 5000 each). The previous titles I've bought from this series sound great, mastered from original analog tapes. I just ordered both from Warner Canada's website, also selling on Rhino's site for US folks.

Paranoid already sold out on Rhino's site, that was fast, less than one day! (but like their Sabbath S/T release, there will likely be some unnumbered copies available sometime in the future). The way these are selling, I'm sure the remaining four classic 70's Sab albums will be released by them as well, and dammit, I'll buy them all.

Re: The VINYL Thread!
I've got a new obsession lately: vintage receivers (to keep this on topic, it's because vinyl sounds sooooooo much better on older, "70s hi-fi war" equipment)
The Harman Kardon I got a few years back has been acting up on me. Funny enough, it was as I was fixing a guitar amp, literally putting in the last screws to re-assemble it, I had The Cult's Love on the turntable, suddenly I get a horrific noise from the right speaker. I've been chasing it for months now.
In my frustration I bought another Yamaha receiver from the Bay, and when that one was DOA, I ordered another. Both are almost repaired now, and then today I saw another deal I couldn't pass up so I'll be getting that this weekend. The models I have, in order are:
Yamaha R-300
Yamaha CR-220
Yamaha CR-620
The first one needed the most work. There was no sound at all. Traced it to a bad amp and was able to find a replacement on E-Bay. No dial light, and broken speaker terminals. Found replacement parts for all. A bit of crosstalk on the input selector switch, that I was able to just fix with DeOxit. I just need to get the FM radio adjusted. Right now if you tune to 102.2, you actually get station 101.5.
The second one, even though the listing said it wasn't working at all, just needed DeOxit and it came right back to life. Light bulbs were dead, hoping to fix that today.
And the last one just needs a good cleaning and some DeOxit as well.
I'm hoping to sell one or two of these to some vinyl-listening friends.

Re: The VINYL Thread!
I've been playing around with the idea of getting a vintage receiver to use for my turntable. I'm not very handy, so doing repairs on one would be steep learning curve for me.
