Re: The VINYL Thread!

I dunno why, but I have a weakness for colored vinyl (especially if it's a cool splatter or swirl).
If I'm on the fence about getting a record, I usually end up buying it if it's colored.

Ravenous 07-27-17 06:45 PM

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Yea I'm the same way. If it's colored. I want it. Even though I am learning that it can affect playback.

I hit up a store aNd got original pressings of Tull aqua lung. Crosby stills and nash csn. And sabbath masters of reality. Sounds amazing.

So a few pages back we were talking cleaning records. I remember getting pointed to a vacuum. Well I found this on amazon. Thoughts?

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I'm really interested in that Only God Forgives soundtrack. I'm a fan of Drive but have never even heard of that movie!!

So it turns out living in the Rocky Mountains is a damn dry place. Who woulda thunk it? I seem to be getting a lot of static and from you guys have said as well as what I have read, I must defeat it. So along with a DIY cleaning system I am coming up with I am looking at investing in these for after I clean:

Mobile Fidelity Master Sleeves (50 Pack) - For my rare - really favorite - vinyls
Diskeeper™ 2.0 Antistatic Record Sleeves (50 Pack) - For the others

Any fans? Do these things really keep static down?

Not sure about that, but someone on another forum was asking about this thing:
It seems to work pretty well when you push hard enough. I think I'll order one soon and try it out.

I loved Drive, but thought OGF was terrible. To each their own, though. :)

I have the MoFi sleeves, and they're pretty good. They seem to keep static away pretty good.

Hey slop101, I listened to the new pressing of Fu Manchu's California Crossing (LP # 3), and it was off the hook! It's definitely the best sounding LP of theirs in their entire catalog -- hands down. I listened to it in standard 2.0 then I switched it to 2.1 (with the subwoofer), and it was fucking phenomenal. I do not regret spending $44 on that set. One of the best releases of the year so far, IMO.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

 Nice!
I think most of Fu's LPs sound great - they seem to have some of the best QC of any non-German pressed vinyl I've come across.

Looks like Buckethead has gotten into the vinyl mix. There are regular and limited editions of some of his albums. The regular editions start at $20 plus $5 for shipping. I ordered Elephant Man's Alarm Clock -- it's very Lynch/Lovecraft inspired.

I preordered Terrortron's new album "Orgy of the Vampires" from Bandcamp. It was $20 plus $4 for shipping and had the option of being signed, so I said yes. I also get a digital version of it.

They even made a fake trailer for a film that doesn't exist:

Damn Blu? That's actually really cool! I would get it but just blew $200 on a shitload of awesome vinyl in Salt Lake City. Thankfully that's not a colored vinyl or I'd say fuck it lol

If y'all ever find yourselves in SLC Utah I would recommend Graywhale Entertainment and Randy's records (considered one of the 8 best record stores in USA). Randy's was small but packed with people! I had people wanting to see what I had gotten and one dude seemed pissed I had gotten some awesome finds before him! Lol. The cool thing is they clean all their vinyl (and yours as well for $3) with a $1300 Vpi system. Really cool!

Mondo has the Anomalisa soundtrack up. Really cool-looking package. Will probably sell out soon.

If there are any fans of Elton John's classic early albums, the new vinyl re-issues are phenomenal!

Beyond the pressings being near-perfect (from Germany), the packaging is also reproduced impeccably.

I only got Madman and Tumbleweed, which I can vouch for, but consensus is that most of them have turned out great - even better than original pressings.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

So what's up in the vinyl world for everyone?

I made a home made holder to to sink was my used vinyls. I spent maybe $5 in dollar store stuff and it covers the center sticker and levels the record on a pizza tin. I have a screw rod through the center with wingnuts and a mesh rubber padding between the record and pizza pan. Works damn good. I than wash in the sink with a paint edger and finish it off with a mix of isopropyl alcohol, jet dry, and distilled water. My used best up records sound absolutely amazing. Almost to the thought that "no way these should sound that good". So been doing that.

Waxworks has been dishing out the soundtracks and I e bought probably too damn much. But they released Creepshow and Rosemary's Baby is next. I'm hoping for Reanimator.

That's all. Sept 29 will be a huge day as new Primus, Jag Panzer, and Kadavar come out. Plus the score for Christine.

What a fucking crazy hobby.

Yup! Grabbing those last two as well. Sept 29 is gonna be stacked!

The bummer is my old and NEW shelf to store vinyl, is pretty much full. Shit

Re: The VINYL Thread!

So question. Are you guys having to wet wash all your new vinyls? I am having some killer static on some releases. But not all. My metallicas sound perfect but other releases that are also 180gs are snapping and popping everywhere. I read static is awful in dry places and i am that, and that the solution is to wet wash..... but all my stuff? Yeesh

Another another side. I got a great used vinyl dirty as shit, but I washed it with my homemade system and holy shit what a difference.

I do not wet wash. I have that special brush, though. Posted it a few pages back. I wipe each side before playback and it works great.

A cheap option to try is putting a humidifier in your listening room to bring the level of humidity up which should mitigate against static electricity buildup. Also using a cork mat can help.
