Re: The VINYL Thread!
Got my SQÜRL vinyl from Sacred Bones yesterday. I ordered the limited edition that comes with the negative version of the photograph on the cover, digital version, blue splatter, and a special numbered's and wax sealed sleeve that houses the whole thing.
https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0...20&oe=59C5C949 They only made (obviously) 230 limited edition EP's and I have #109 of #230. They have the regular version in plentiful stock via Sacred Bones' website. |
Re: The VINYL Thread!
^ That looks awesome. I wish I had grabbed a copy!

Now some not-quite-negative, but... lukewarm thoughts... I'm spoilerizing them because I think you shouldn't read it until you get your own copy and judge for yourself. I don't want to taint your experience! Spoiler:
I didn't get a chance to listen to it last night, so I'll follow up on that... later. :D Anyway, you should contact Waxwork again and make a fuss about getting your copy. The fact that you haven't even received a shipping notice makes me angry FOR you! Give 'em hell! |
Re: The VINYL Thread!
Pretty awesome, Blu? Hows the vinyl look?
Well speak of the devil, I got my shipping confirmation finally. So I did NOT read your spoiler!! Stay tuned, it should be arriving soon! |
Re: The VINYL Thread!
^Awesome!
I'll throw this out there... If ANYONE is going to SDCC (specifically, on Preview Night, which is today)... http://i.imgur.com/OkqQv4r.png Or, if you go on a different day, and they have the Portal soundtrack... that too! ;) I'd be eternally grateful if someone could swing by the Mondo booth and grab me one or both of these. I'll pay you for the cost + shipping + a bit extra. |
Re: The VINYL Thread!
Damn that Contra looks cool. Isn't it going for sale on the site? I didn't know it was just for sdcc.
I got my Thing in today aND will hear it tomorrow! |

Even though the packaging is beautiful, I'm reminded that this was $70 before shipping. I'm not totally convinced that the final product was worth THAT much... but... I'm still glad to have it. The colour-effect on the LP is really cool, although possibly not as nice as the first round? I can't be certain. Mine just looks a little... hmm.. I can't even think of the right term. Just... not as stark as I expected, I guess. Maybe I'll snap some pics. Anyway, the colour itself doesn't even matter. It's the SOUND that matters, and... I didn't get a chance to listen to it last night, so I'll follow up on that... later. :D |
Re: The VINYL Thread!
Listening to it as I type, actually. :) I thought you got the $70 set, too. I guess my comments about the package don't really apply to you then.
The sound. Seems mostly fine here. A decent amount of clicks and pops, yeah, but not a ton. I did need to clean it quite a bit though. Lots of white specs all over it. I'll keep listening and see how it changes. And for a brand new 180gram record, it sure has some warp to it. Kinda disappointing. |

Re: The VINYL Thread!
This fucker showed up the other and and I've been giving it some spins...
https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/01...main_1800x.jpg I made sure to get the German pressing since I heard that the US pressing is inconstant. It's pretty much perfect - flat, quiet, clean, zero noise, and the remaster sounds better to me here. |
Re: The VINYL Thread!
General question, do you guys track the % breakout of new vs used vinyl you purchase? Seems like most of the posts in this thread are around new vinyl releases. Perhaps it's because it's a release announcement as much as it is an addition to your collection, as part of those posts.
Only asking because most of my vinyl purchases these days are used - maybe 10% are new. Similar with others here or am I tipping the scale? |
Re: The VINYL Thread!
I don't buy used vinyl hardly ever. Just too much of a crap-shoot as to quality. Some may look great, but then sound like crap, and buying them online, you never know what condition it might really be in. So that's why I tend to gravitate towards new re-issues for older albums - most of the time they do sound great, and if they've been pressed in Germany, I know I'll get a good quality record.
|
Re: The VINYL Thread!
I'm the opposite, I buy a lot more used than new. It takes more work because you have to vet sellers, find ones with good communication and reasonable return policies, but IMO it's worth it as I prefer AAA vinyl when I can get it, and most reissues are digitally sourced. If a new reissue is AAA and sounds good I'll get that instead, like the recent Ziggy Stardust reissue.
I've gotten excellent copies of classic albums for not an insane amount of money via ebay and discogs by doing due diligence. |
Re: The VINYL Thread!
I think accessibility is key as well. I recognize I may be spoiled since I have access to no less than 5 used record stores w/in a few min drive of my house. If my used options were limited to Discogs and eBay I may be a little more reluctant - though I've had pretty good luck with both thus far in the used purchases I've made online. I too am quite selective in the releases I seek out and have passed up countless copies because it either wasn't the pressing or condition I sought.

Re: The VINYL Thread!
Most of my collection are used Vinyls. I used to live in Seattle and there were tons of used record stores. And unlike many i kinda enjoy that old, dirt hissing sound of several LPs it adds some warmth to the recordings (at least on my mind :p)
But yeah I agree most people here post the newest releases. I posted once my Nat king Cole finding and i don't think anybody care about my old ass vinyl of an equally old artist |
Re: The VINYL Thread!
I'm at about 70% new - 30% used. I. have 2 used shops in my city and Amoeba is near by. Now if I get lazy and don't want to go to those shops I will get them on Discogs.

Re: The VINYL Thread!
This thread does need more pics of everyone's collections
|
Re: The VINYL Thread!
I like seeing people's collections...

Re: The VINYL Thread!
I'm about split with used/new. I find some old ones sound amazing where 180g or others I've gotten are shit pressings. See the thing above. But I have a question.
How the hell do you find out where the pressing is from?? Germany? How would I even find out? |
