Re: Taylor Swift -- Discussion Thread
I would have more respect for Taylor if she didn't have a million variations of the same thing that she knows her fans will buy all of, or expanded versions of her album that drop 3 hours after the original version.
She's a carny. She doesn't care about her fans as much as much as she cares about bilking them for every penny that they will spend. And I say this as someone who likes her music, but I find the way that she puts things out very off putting.

Agree and wonder if all the blame that falls on her or her parents or whoever runs the business side of her operation or all of the above to milk every penny out of her fans.
She is probably the new Gene Simmons.
The concert is cool but I have seen most of the clips on Youtube and seen how the stage and costumes look and the images that flash on the big screen and I know it is not the same as a pro-shot concert video but I will not shell out a fortune to watch it in the theater.

You live in the most expensive city in California. Compared to several hundred to thousands of dollars to see the real thing and you may not even have a good seat?Yeah why pay for a high quality 4K Dolby and Atmos audio and professional concert movie when you can watch a shitty, bad angle cell phone video on YouTube.

Her “Eras Tour” concert film, which opens theatrically on Oct. 13, has already earned a massive $26 million in presale tickets at AMC Theatres. “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” has set a new record for single-day ticket sales at AMC, besting the benchmark previously held by “Spider-Man: No Way Home” ($16.9 million).
This figure is only for presales at AMC, meaning the actual number of tickets sold is much higher. AMC is the world’s biggest theater chain, but the “Eras Tour” concert film is also playing at rival circuits like Regal and Cinemark. Exhibitors privately believe a $100 million-plus opening weekend is possible for this film. Only five films this year, “Barbie,” “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” have hit triple digits in their debuts.

Wow, the Swifts self-funded the film and negotiated the distribution deal themselves. And are SAG-AFTRA compliant. Pretty impressive.
But sure, Jeff don't pay $20 for a ticket and watch a shitty pirated cell phone video on You Tube before it gets taken down. And be sure to criticise Taylor's blatant commercialism, because that's so bad.

Be nice to the fans and make it around $12 or the price of a regular movie ticket.

How big were those acts seventeen years in, and how much did they permeate the overriding popular culture 17 years after their inception like she has done?

The Beatles only needed 7 years as that's the span of their discography. They were pretty damn huge.
After only 13 years, Pink Floyd had already released Dark Side of the Moon (only 6 years in), Wish You Were Here and The Wall.
Zeppelin's discography only spanned 10 years (13 if you count CODA - which I don't really count).
I have no dog in this fight either way.

Taylor would be the first to tell you that she has no business being mentioned in the same breath, or even same paragraph as those artists. She has humility to the point of incredulity. Just google “Taylor face”.

"Taylor face" is all an act. Act surprised and be humble about it, they'll like you more. It's an effective strategy.
Not knocking it at all, but I doubt it comes from the heart. It's a business tool.

She's as manufactured as a smartphone. In fact, I think she was born in Foxconn.

Popped into the thread out of curiosity because I keep seeing this thread getting bumped to the top. Looks like I didn't miss much, but I'll answer this question.

(but, to your point - they do NOT permeate popular culture "to this day", they stoke nostalgia - that's it)

Being able to appeal to such a wide swath of diverse people around the planet, and sustain that, among so much more competition, is a massive feat any way you cut it.

Any chance the movie gets released on DVD/Blu for Christmas this year, or do they have to get $25/person in the theaters for as long as they can before they get $25 per DVD?

Re: Taylor Swift -- Discussion Thread
The deal they made with AMC allows them to bring the movie to streaming after 13 (natch) weeks. So that's mid-January. Since they own the movie and the distribution rights they can put it out on DVD whenever they want, but I doubt it would be that soon. Plus they'll probably get a better streaming deal if it's not available on media already.
