Wow that is a quick turn around. Didn't expect that, nor how expensive the concert film would be. And wow the demand must be enormous. How limited is the engagement?

For kicks, I checked the local IMAX screen and the only seats available are in the very front row.

Demand is enormous enough that I can't even buy a movie ticket for anything for at least 10 minutes!

Here's my screencap for the app:

That's a pretty big deal!

Re: Taylor Swift -- Discussion Thread

The IMAX 6pm showing that I got on October 13th a few hours ago is now almost completely sold out except the front row. There are like 8 showing at my local AMC on the 13th and they are slowly filling up.

I went with an XD Cinemark show on Friday. Cheaper, they allow Movie Club Credits (with upgrade cost) and are refundable.
It's a 6pm show, and I assume it's the full 3.5 hr concert. Guess I gotta eat really early or have a popcorn dinner.

Interesting. Wonder what they're cutting.
Maybe they don't include the surprise songs. That's 10-15 minutes. I imagine they cut some folklore and evermore songs. They damn well better have No Body No Crime with Haim (the one song from LA I haven't seen her do, besides the surprise songs).
No wait, she also added Long Live to the setlist after Speak Now TV dropped.
Seriously I don't know how she edits 45 minutes out of the show without pissing off her fans.

Edit : Here you go : No songs cut and two surprise songs included.

Got tix for Sunday at 1pm my wife, daughter and her friend and mom. Insane demand for this. Taylor Swift clearly is the biggest artist of all time.

She has more access to media than anyone before. I don't think she's bigger or more popular than 1968 Beatles, 1983 Michael Jackson or 1984 Prince.
If people could stream unlimited music and go to massive stadium concerts night after night to those things, I bet they would have.
But I give her lots of credit : She really knows how to market herself and really doesn't sell out a ton - she does a few Capital One commercials but knows not to overexpose her brand.

She is huge at the moment but get back to me in 50-60 years if people are still listening to her music after each new generation discovers her. I doubt it happens.

Already surpassed $10M in ticket presales.

My IMAX showing on the 13th is completely full except the neck breaker seats.

For a movie that nobody knew existed 12 hours ago!!!!!

My local Imax has exactly 3 handicapped seats available for the Friday night show.

Before you do check the charts to see that The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin are still selling and Taylor Swift isn't.

"While Supplies Last". Yeah, that won't be long.

I was wondering : Could this break the Opening Weekend per-screen average record? The tickets are super-expensive, but there aren't many showings per day.

There aren't? My local theater has one playing about every 45 minutes.

Re: Taylor Swift -- Discussion Thread

Just went to the AMC app and they've got 4 weeks worth of shows on sale. So far the opening weekend are the only sold out shows in IMAX. They have Dolby Cinema screenings the following weeks, as well.

Looks like TSwift has bailed out the Apes this year.

She is the Michael Jordan of music where everybody buys anything with her name on it and she is not afraid to use any opportunity to sell something.

She's done one commercial in the past three years - the Capitol One one in the elevator. She markets herself well but I would guess she has plenty of marketing opportunities she has turnd down.

Well only one or two premium showings per screen on Friday 10/13. That's going to hurt the per-screen average for the weekend. Most event movies open Thursday night and play all day Friday.
