The Lone Bellow in Newburyport MA. I guess I've become a real fan, as this is the fourth time that I've seen them in the past year.
I really love a band that with great harmonies, and here's an example from last week's show about just how good they can be. No mics, no amps - just a couple acoustic instruments, three amazing voices, and a hushed crowd.

Def Leppard and KISS last night at Klipsch Music Center near Indy.
KISS was pretty typical KISS, just the change in/out of a song or two. Def Leppard, pretty much another greatest hits show, but they were really entertaining and engaged with a good large crowd.
I didn't recognize Vivian Campbell at first (no hair). I had forgotten he had another go-round of chemo. He looks to be back in pretty good shape.

Cool. What venue in Newburyport? Do they get a lot of acts coming through?Originally Posted by [email protected]

The Firehouse Center For the Arts, a beautiful little 195-person theater that's just off the waterfront. They do some plays, some children's theater, some films, and an occasional music act. I believe the only upcoming announced concert is Delta Rae, which is sold out (as was Lone Bellow).Originally Posted by Ky-Fi

(If you're in the area and looking for good music, also check out the free lineup at Prescott Park in Portsmouth NH. Summer is almost over, but they still have upcoming shows with The Wailin' Jennys, Ricky Scaggs, Dr. John and more.)

Ah, thanks. I'll keep an eye out for shows there. And if you're in my neck of the woods, this is a great venue to see any type of music:Originally Posted by [email protected]

Retro Futura tour in Boston last night:
Katrina and the Waves
China Crisis
Midge Ure
Howard Jones
Thompson Twins
I really only went for Midge Ure, and he blew the rest away, IMO. But Howard Jones and Thompson Twins sounded great and did some fun slices of 80's pop:

Saw the Carnivores tour last night with 30 Seconds to Mars and Linkin Park - solid show from both bands.

Would have been cool to see Alannah Currie & Joe Leeway, oh well it was always Bailey's group.Originally Posted by Ky-Fi

A couple weeks ago I saw Joan Jett open for Heart. Great show. Joan did an hour set or mostly hits and Heart did nearly two hours including a three song encore of Led Zeppelin songs.

Yep, would have liked to have seen the original lineup too. But I guess at this point with 80's bands, you take whatever geezers can still make it out on stage. Originally Posted by inri222

I saw this in Pittsburgh. You summed it pretty well. Some of KISS' schtick is getting a little stale. Really Paul, you don't have to sing Love Gun every time you go to the sound board. Any song works. Seriously. I thought Paul's voice was a little rough, too. One thing they did that was very, very right was to drop the drum and guitar solos.Originally Posted by The Cow

I never had a chance to see Def Leppard before, so I really enjoyed their set. They sounded a lot fresher than KISS, but maybe that's because KISS has been playing essentially the same show for the last three tours.

Band of Horses (acoustic) - Wolf Trap - wow, just wow! and 'No One's Gonna Love You' ['tear']

The Happy Together tour at MN State Fair ft. Mitch Ryder, Mark Farner (Grand Funk), Chuck Negron (Three Dog Night) and The Turtles! (of course!)
It was great!

I second your "wow" assessment...

Took my daughter to see Ed Sheeran at Staples this past Wednesday. Very impressive that a guy with an acoustic guitar and a couple of looper pedals can put on such an entertaining show at a venue that size. Despite the opinions some have about his music, the guy certainly knows how to entertain an audience.

Nickel Creek w/ Elephant Revival
Pikes Peak Center
Aug 30th
E.R. were impressive, hadn't heard them before. Nickel Creek were (as usual) exceptional. Their last encore (When you come back down) they came up to the edge of the stage and sang to (and with) the crowd with out their amps- absolutely stunning.
