Re: What concert did you recently attend?
Not a fan of his longstanding NIN phase and I much preferred his 80's shows but hey, he's managed to stay relevant for the kids so it's all good in the end. Pretty aggressive, loud show with fantastic lighting. All his NIN songs sound the same to me and he's managed to NINify the five old-school hits he plays so it seemed like one boom-boom, head-swinging industrial song after the other. The poor sound mix made everything sound even more homogenous. His bass player is a ball of energy and seemed genuinely pumped to be playing. His current keyboard player is laughably bad and kept muffing simple lines, especially the piano solos during Are 'Friends' Electric, which was otherwise a killer finale to the show.

The Pixies at the El Rey Theater. They still got it, even without Kim Deal. Only song I wished they had played was "Gouge Away". Otherwise, awesome fucking show.

Megadeth and Maiden last Thursday.
Haven't been to a metal show since Ozzfest in '05, and I've never seen Maiden live. Awesome show, Maiden was never really on my radar (the only album I've owned was Mark of the Beast) but they really won me over. Can't wait until they come around again.

Alice In Chains, Circa Survive and Coheed & Cambria were awesome. Coheed's drummer wasn't feeling well, so the band did a last minute Acoustic Set. Sounded great! Cladio's wife even joined in to help with the vocals/singing.

I saw The Pixies in '89ish open for Love and Rockets. A small portion of the audience knew who they were and they played half the show with the house lights on. Truly memorable show.

I'm going to see The Avett Brothers Sat night. They put on such a great, joyful show. Can. Not. Wait.
I'm going with my 14 year old daughter. She's 14 and has seen Wilco 4 times, the Avett Bros, the Decemberists (twice), Robyn Hitchcock, Foxygen, Conor Oberst, Dr. Dog, Steely Dan, Yo La Tengo, Elvis Costello, Middle Brother, m. Ward, The Head and the Heart, Civil Wars, Dawes, Delta Spirit and others I can't remember.
At 14, I had seen Blue Oyster Cult once.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?
I had seen The Pixies before years ago at Coachella (the first time Radiohead headlined, and The Cure). But this was in a much smaller venue.

I've been on a concert drought this year. I fucked up and wasn't able to attend the STP w Chester rehearsal show (I won a contest on FB) Labor Day weekend . I saw the pics and the band literally played for 20 people (catered the event), so my bad for missing out on that.
As far as upcoming shows - I got my tickets to the L.A. show of The Sounds on October 24th.

Avett Brothers were fantastic as usual but wanted to say the opening band, Trombone Shorty, was one of those rare bands that started in a half empty "who the fuck is this?" venue to completely packed, on their feet, cheering house.

They aren't touring right now, but I'm sure they will tour when they have a new record.
The best show I've seen by them was The Hazards of Love tour where they brought the singers from Lavender Diamond and My Brightest Diamond and played the whole album beginning to end. Then an intermission followed by a set of all their older stuff.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?
I always wanted to see John Williams performing his best known scores, so I attended this concert...http://www.sfsymphony.org/Buy-Ticket...-of-the-Movies
And it was fantastic. I've collected film score for years, but a good live performance makes me appreciate the hobby all over again.
