Not exactly 5 years, but they did have a break for a few years between #2 and #3. In my friend's opinion, once Matt Sharp left it was downhill.
I agree. Weezer was *my band* in high school, I remember seeing them on the Pinkerton tour, second row and meeting 3/4th of the band (minus Rivers) but once Matt left, they just became "another geek rock band" and not the kings of the genre. Now every album since has had some great moments but they just aren't the same

I definitely think their creative peak was the mid to late 90s.
mid to late 90's was Falling to Infinity.
