Tonight's airing on AXS has a 2:35 runtime... Sounds like they're running the whole thing (or close to it).

Looks like Axl is trying to hide his shape by wearing that jacket, he looked like Elton John when he was playing the piano.

I thought the exact thing when they showed him in profile at the piano.

watched it last night, like it. Long show with music interludes in between and girls on stage, yup it's a GNR show. Band sounds great, Axl with his soft voice was good.

the 3D screen effects fireworks on JUNGLE and like 3 cutaways to the Vegas Strip (in between songs) were lame but otherwise

He doesn't look too fat to me.... sounds a lot worse than he looks. The first few songs he kinda had this robot voice thing going on. I'm assuming his vocals were being processed with auto tune or something. He sounded good on songs that arent too hard to sing (Used to Love Her, Knockin' on Heaven's Door, and sounded excellent doing Don't Cry), but sounded like Mickey Mouse on pretty much everything else. Doing November Rain on that cheesy airbrushed piano while it levitates over the crowd was tacky. Also, why's this band so friggin huge? 3 guitarists? DJ Ashba sucks and is a cam-whore constantly giving the camera the finger and doing the hand over heart gestures to the audience, get rid of him.

I will say that Fortus and Bumblefoot absolutely ripped in this show. Monster players.

That is absolute horseshit. Sounds like someone desperate for the spotlight. Neither of these guys have remotely said anything like this over the last 20 years.

You know the story is made up b/c EVH did not get paid at all, let alone $1M, for his Beat It solo -http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=459.

I mean, some people, and some journalists and copy editors, are just freaking idiots sometimes.

Re: GUNS N' ROSES: "Chinese Democracy" -11/23/08

Speaking of Axl and Slash, I might as well go ahead and post this since I don't think I've ever posted this here before.

In January 1994, shortly after the release of The Spaghetti Incident, Axl and Slash appeared together on the national call-in radio show Rockline. I was lucky enough to get a call in that night and ask them a question. A few days later, this came in the mail:

Pretty neat to have since this was pretty much the last big joint appearance they made together before everything imploded later on in '94/'95.

What question did you ask them?

Pretty cool item too. I actually like that album but then again I love Chinese Democracy too.

I asked them about the "Since I Don't Have You" cover. Always liked that one, and still like Spaghetti, too.

Duff was on Rockline a few months earlier in September '93 to support his solo record and I was able to get in and ask him a question too. They sent me a copy of the record (wasn't signed, though), and some kick-ass steel-toe Skecher boots.

I liked Chinese Democracy too. Maybe not a great Guns N' Roses album but a good Axl Rose effort using the name. It was better than it should have been if you ask me. Not a fan of The Spaghetti Incident though.

The Michael allegations weren't out there in the public in 91, were they? Maybe Axl knew something we didn't, and I'm sure there was some smoke, but this story seems a little sketchy.

I remember Bill O'Reilly going ape shit over GNR Lies when hosting Inside Edition all those years ago. "Used To Love Her" and "One In A Million" were going to be the downfall of America.

Re: GUNS N' ROSES: "Chinese Democracy" -11/23/08

Back in Fall 2008, I heard that another G N'R album was on the horizon, which shocked me since the band had dropped off my radar not long after UYI I & II came out back in September '91.

So, primarily fueled by nostalgia, I went to Best Buy and bought Chinese Democracy on it's release - and, I really liked it! It's a very solid hard rock album, and it reminds me a lot more of AFD than GNR's later albums. My favorite tracks are: "Chinese Democracy", "Shackler's Revenge", "Better", "Riad N' The Bedouins", "Madagascar", "Sorry", and "There was a Time", though the other songs are decent too. In fact, listening to this album temporarily transports me back to the late '80's when I was first discovering the band.

Re: GUNS N' ROSES: "Chinese Democracy" -11/23/08

I think itís a solid album too. Not as good as the classic albums from the original Guns Ní Roses run (Appetite For Destruction, Use Your Illusion I, and Use Your Illusion II) but better than a couple of them. I like most of the tracks and would say my favorites are: Better, Street of Dreams, Catcher in the Rye, and Madagascar.

Re: GUNS N' ROSES: "Chinese Democracy" -11/23/08

Well, not only do I think Chinese Democracy is a fantastic G n'R album, it's my second favorite album of theirs. Here's my ranking of all of their albums, 4 stars being the highest.

I. Appetite for Destruction (1987) - a true masterpiece. 4 stars (out of four)

II. Chinese Democracy (2008) - extremely underrated album, and brings to mind their best '80's output. 3 stars.

II. Use your Illusion I & II (1991) - I had to combine these together since I feel they're both one huge album. I feel they could take the best songs from both & just put them on one album. There was a lot of "filler" here. But, there were a lot of excellent songs as well. 3 stars (for both albums taken as a whole).

IV: Lies (1988) - I consider this a "half" album, if that. There are only 3 new songs (Patience, One in a Million, Used to Love Her), and one song that's an acoustic version of an AFD tune, i.e. "You're Crazy". The other 4 songs were decent songs in and of themselves, but had terrible audio quality. It would have been nice if they re-recorded all 4 of these live songs in a studio; they wouldn't have had to record anything new, and the songs would have sounded a lot better.

In any case, I always felt "Lies" was, overall, an OK album with some memorable songs. However, it's obvious that this was hastily slapped together - in order to make some money from fans without a lot of effort from the band. Lies came out a year after AFD, so the band was obviously still riding the wave of popularity that they had because of AFD. Again, this didn't have enough original songs to be classified as a full studio album; and the sound quality on the live songs was awful. 2 stars

V: The Spaghetti Incident (1993): To be honest - I've listened to the album in it's entirety twice, and wasn't impressed either time.. Very forgettable. It wasn't just that all of the songs were covers, since I do like some G n'R cover songs (notably their version of Live & Let Die). However, this album was garbage - and that's being kind. 0 stars.

GNR Lies isn't really an album, as such. It's more like a compilation of two EPs. It's the old "Live Like a Suicide" EP that pre-dated Appetite for Destruction, and then four new songs to bridge the gap to the new album(s).

Right. This is why I said Lies was a hastily slapped together money-grab on the part of the band/label. They could have released a legitimate album with 8 new songs, but instead cheaped out with this sub-par release; and, one of the "new" songs - You're Crazy - is just an acoustic version of the same song on AFD. Yes, I'm a big fan of the group & do have this album (bought it on cassette back in the day, and years later got the CD) - and, there are a handful of solid songs on there. However, overall it's not that impressive.

The LLAS EP was shit to begin with; terrible sound quality. I guess it's nice to have this since it's G N'R's first "release", but it's more of a curiosity than anything else.
