Almost old news now (by internet standards), but Agalloch finally announced their fourth album, Marrow Of The Spirit, set for release through Profound Lore on November 23rd in the U.S.

In case anybody missed it, Adult Swim put up their Metal Swim compilation up for free streaming and download a few days ago. There's a ton of free/cheap metal samplers out there, but this one's interesting because it's made up of rare and unreleased material.

Thanks for the link. Love what I've heard so far. Just picked up a used copy of "The Mantle" and will be absorbing that over the next few days.

Yes, excellent. I still prefer Toxine, but Legion fulfills the role.

Oh. This is so, so good. I was right, album of the year (along with "Danzig's "Deth Red Sabaoth"). I can't wait to see them play in Dec.

It's a side project (?) with Dave Gold the singer of Woods of Ypres and I think one their former bass players, Aaron Palmer.

They have a 2 Track Vinyl coming out eventually. I read some reviews on it as recent as last month, but I've yet to hear anything at all.

EDIT: Dave Gold put up the 2 songs on YouTube.

The new Danzig album is that good? I assumed this album would be just as mediocre as the past few.....

Yes, it really is. And this is coming from someone who's been a fan since I was 12 back in '93. I know Blackaciddevil, Satan's Child and I Luciferi were all mediocre, but he started to get back on the right track with Circle of Snakes. This latest one is easily the best thing he's done since 4p. My only complaint is that Tommy Victor hasn't got half the chops John Chirst does, and the solos sound like shit because of it. But, that aside, it's a very good album.

The best things about danzig 1-4 (that wasn't there on the later albums) were:

(in no order)
-quality of songs
-drumming
-guitar solos
-production

And then where things got bad were:
-quality of songs
-production (different phases of grind, NIN-sound...etc.)
-guitar solos (not that I listed to 5-7 more than once or twice)
-not as cool members
-drumming couldn't compete with Biscuits
-guitar solos (as you mentioned)....again, though, Christ was a perfect fit

If the songs are good though, I'll give it a chance. The Onion gave a pretty positive review of it.....not that I'd consider them a good source for music reviews, but it's worth something.

No offense, but why not just say, "The good parts are good, and the bad parts are bad...I'll like it if it's good," lol. I too was pleasantly surprised by the New Danzig myself, though. It's not going to be making my own top of the year list (not that I ever actually make one, though), but it's decent.

An EXCELLENT Folk Metal band form Spain. They sound awesome live.

Slough Feg is awesome. They stick to one sound that works for them, so it can be easy for me to overplay them, but I think they're unique and I really want to check them out live sometime.

As for the new Agalloch, it's epic. Really an amazing piece of work.
