You guys make a great point. I think Killswitch served a similar purpose for me. As you become accustomed to more growling and screaming, heavier riffs, etc. you slowly progress toward full-on brutal assault-type metal. If you'd have told me I'd be listening to All Shall Perish or Slipknot two years ago I'd have laughed.

Weird, huh?

I might also add that I'm very happy to have created this thread. I didn't realize there were so many metal heads here at DVD Talk, and I love hearing about bands (new and old) from you guys!

I'll agree, i used to hate screaming and growling, cause i tuned into headbangers ball the first or second night of its re emergance, and couldn't get into that style. I guess it was right timing when i first heard lamb of god on 98 rock, cause at that time i was kind of getting sick and tired of the bland nu metal stuff like chevelle, breaking benjamin, trapt. The major bands i listen to most are log, All that Remains, Walls of Jericho, Chimaira, cannibal corpse, and dying fetus. now I've even started listening to deathcore stuff like winds of plague, all shall perish and as blood runs black, and 5 years ago, if someone told me i'd be listening to that, like you, i would have prob laughed. Its also nice to go to shows and see that there are alot of fans out there of this type of music.

anyways, any fans of a band called Arsonists Get All the Girls? I have them on my mp3 player since their song Shoeshine for Neptume. I'm def gonna have to check more of them out. Kind of has a deathcore vibe, with keyboards, and a bit of Between the Buried and Me style guitar harmonies.

I usually can't get into the "cookie monster" bands, but for some reason, White Chapel is hitting the mark with me.

Nocturnal Breed has been kicking my ass for the past couple hours.

Their latest album "Fields of Rot" is just sick. They're Thrash with Black-style vocals. Shredding is phenomenal, the vocalist is just vicious.

The entire album is available to listen on their myspace. (myspace.com/nocturnalbreed)

Most recommended songs are "Wicked, Vicious & Violent", "Manskinner", "Fields of Rot" .. Hell, the whole album.

Yeah, Witchery are pretty good. "Symphony for the Devil" was pretty weak, but I think they made up for it with "Don't Fear The Reaper".. Some of the tracks have a little too much Arch Enemy worship, but I can forgive that. Well, I can try.

Volbeat, anyone like them? A friend of mine suggested them because they were off the wall. Best way I can describe it is "rock-a-billy metal". I grabbed a few songs off of iTunes and it is actually kind of cool.

Also, Mnemic, how about them? They are different then a lot of stuff and their second album used this "surround sound"* technology, which is kind of cool. Haven't listened to their latest (they changed vocalists), but the first two are killer.

I thought it was pretty good. I would have preferred more depth into black/death metal, but that's just me. A lot of grindcore, nu-metal, and power metal doesn't do anything for me.

Here's one of my favorites, ultra low growly vocals, but still very melodic:

Nice. Some terrific videos being put up.

More people need to become fans of Nortt. Those guys are sick. "Ligfaerd" is such an awesome album. Plus, kudos on the Anaal Nathrakh video, another terrific album.

Throughout all this excitement.. I almost forgot to mention the obvious.. I'm new. I've been reading these boards for years and figured it was about friggin time I joined.
