oh I can't wait for January 31, 2006
and why hasn't there been an announcement if the latest album will be released in a multichannel edition. Given the fact that Soft, Yoshi, and the Video Collection all have 5.1 soundmixes, my fingers are crossed that the trend continues with 'At War With The Mystics'

i agree. I bought yoshimi twice for the 5.1 and found it was well worth it. I'll rebuy Soft for sure as well, but it would be wonderful to have a 5.1 mix of Mystics right off the bad

So far I'm really liking what I'm hearing of the new album. Granted I've only heard three songs (The W.A.N.D., Mr. Ambulance Driver, and You've Got To Hold On, which is by far my favorite), but I'm definitely impressed and just as excited as ever for the release.
A lot of people over at the official site are saying that they're disappointed by what they've heard of Mystics so far. I can't say I'm among that group.

Wow, when I was "Playing God" with the SB, my track order is identicle to the new track order. How awesome. I have friends that heard the new album and they thought it was really good so hopefully the end the trend of great artists making bad albums for 2006.

laming Lips Reveal 'Mystic' Track List
January 20, 2006, 11:10 AM ET
Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
The Flaming Lips have set the track list for their upcoming album, "At War With the Mystics," Billboard.com has learned. Due April 4 via Warner Bros., the 12-track set is led by the single "The W.A.N.D.," which is available now from leading digital download stores.
Among the songs that made the cut for the follow-up to 2002's "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots" is "Mr. Ambulance Driver," which first appeared on last summer's "Wedding Crashers" soundtrack. "It is connected to some powerful stuff," Lips leader Wayne Coyne tells Billboard.com of the track. "Every time I hear it, I think Flaming Lips fans will get it and like it. The metaphors and the ideas in the waiting for the ambulance or something to come and save you still hit me."
Coyne previously said album opener "The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song" reminded him "almost [of] an MC5 thing, but it's not talking about external things. It's talking about the power within you. What would you do if you had the power?"
In terms of an overall sound for the project, Coyne said, "There are some tracks we've delved into production-wise, where we're trying to get some of that heavy rock'n'roll with heavy guitar riffs, but not just to be aggressive. On the last couple of records, we've tried to be more expressive in beautiful ways. But sometimes, volume and intensity are great too."
"At War With the Mystics" will also be available as a special edition with a bonus DVD featuring extra tracks, videos and a 5.1 audio mix. The same treatment is being afforded to the Lips' 1999 album "The Soft Bulletin," which will be reissued Jan. 31 via Warner Bros.
Here is the track list for "At War With the Mystics":
"The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song"
"Free Radicals"
"The Sound of Failure/It's Dark...Is it Always This Dark??"
"My Cosmic Autumn Rebellion"
"Vein of Stars"
"The Wizard Turns On..."
"It Overtakes Me/The Stars Are So Big, I Am So Small...Do I Stand a Chance?"
"Mr. Ambulance Driver"
"Haven't Got a Clue"
"The W.A.N.D."
"Pompeii Am Gotterdammerung"
"Goin' On"

Is it just me or are the Lips the only band around that really "get it" when it comes to hi-rez audio and 5.1 mixes? That's a shame, but at the same time good for them. Can't wait to buy both...
#18
Not a band per se, but I think Beck's got a pretty good grasp of hi-rez audio, too--Sea Change was released in both SACD and DVD-A formats, and the Guero DVD-A was released the same day as the redbook CD.
I'd love for some other bands to get on the hi-rez bandwagon. Wilco and Radiohead come to mind.
These Lips albums are probably my most highly-anticipated of the year. Can't wait to hear Soft Bulletin next week.

- Love Kraft - the 5.1 (Hybrid) Super Audio CD was a UK release. The US release wasn't.
Domestically released:
- Phantom Power - DVD edition (Dolby Digital/DTS)
- Rings Around the World - the best of the three IMO; DVD: (Dolby Digital/DTS)

I know I'm being impatient, but has anyone picked up the Soft Bulletin DVD-A yet? I'm curious how it compares to Yoshimi.
I'm still debating buying it since I've spent way too much money on music in the past few weeks, but if the mix is anywhere near as interesting I don't think I'll have a choice.

I just grabbed "Soft Bulletin" and can't wait to get home from work! Does anyone know (1) what are the "bleep blop" videos (like the waveform cartoons from Yoshimi maybe?); (2) is the CD exactly the same as the original CD release (just trying to figure out if I can get rid of my old version)
