True that. Every band she interviews either flirts with her shamelessly (the dumb ones) or F around with her and she doesn't always catch on(the smart ones).

No doubt about it, Dimebag and others in Pantera, were huge KISS fans. I could swear that I've seen images (footage?) of them doing a concert in full KISS make up. The best image I could find:

From left to right: Dimebag, Ace Frehley, and some dude I don't recognize.

Corycouger: sorry if you felt offended by my posting the glam shot. It was not meant as an insult to Dimebag or Vinnie, simply to note their humble beginnings, so to say. To see them from back then to what they became shows the progress they made...or the lack of progress they made for folks who were HUGE glam/hair metal fans. It's not like I said something mean while posting it like: "here's the REAL Pantera, what a bunch of losers!!!11!one...remember, before I posted that I did post a "tribute pic" of Dimebag in a "prime moment" so to say...

I used to have a videotape of them playing with Skid Row in NJ They (some of Pantera - don't remember which ones) were dressed in Kiss makeup when Ace came out and played Cold Gin.

Another band (STP) all played in Kiss makeup one Halloween at Roselands' in NYC for the whole show. That was pretty unique.

I'm listening to Pantera's Power Metal album right now. I guess its their first album with Phil on vocals. You'd never know it was Pantera. I can see why they've never wanter to re-release these things.

Wasn't sure if they had an album with Phil prior to Cowboys From Hell...if I remember what I've heard correctly, the band formed in '83, with Phil joining in '87. I THINK CFH was released in '90.

I'd like to hear that album if it is with Phil. There's no doubt in my mind that they could have been a damn good "power metal" sort of glam band. Hints of Phil's singing voice (and a damn good one at that in my opinion) are heard on CBH, but were gone by Vulgar Display of Power.

I've got that issue here at home. I remember reading the article for Ace. It
was my first intro to Dimebag.

giantrobo: what magazine/issue is that picture in? I'm a pack-rat when it comes to my magazines, can't remember the last time I threw one out. I wonder if I have this one? Even if I don't...I'm curious who the third person is in the picture that I can't identify...does the photo have a caption under it?

It was a whole article with Dimebag and the other guy interviewing Ace about guitar stuff. I know it was a guitar magazine but I can't remember which one. I've been looking for it but I can't find it right now.

Anymore info on the nutjob that did this? I'm still shocked by this. What a great talent gone.

They released 4 albums Prior to CFH. Phil was on the 4th one. The albums were Metal Magic, Power Metal, I Am The Night, and one other. I don't remember which one Phil did. I have a bootleg copy of all the songs from all 4 albums. (btw even with Phil it sounds nothing like the Pantera we know)

Ah, I found out about the mag. It was Guitar World, August 93, with Dimebag, SNAKE SABO of SKID ROW and Ace and on the cover.

Has anyone heard anything from Phil or Rex yet? I'd like to see what they have to say about his death, especially Phil. I hope he isn't a smart ass about it.

Damn, that was heavy. I wasn't expecting something like that. I sure as hell wasn't expecting to see him cry. I know they had their differences in the end, but it looks like Phil really did still care for Dime and Vinnie.

He rambles a lot, which isn't anything new, but some of the media stuff was a little odd. I understand his dealings with the media and Pantera, but was he some how implying that they had something to do with Dimes death? Maybe he meant the way they choose to cover it or something.

Anyway, glad to see he isn't making some snide ass comment about Dime deserving this. I love Superjoint Ritual and Down, almost as much as Pantera, but his attitude towards certain things have always left a bad taste in my mouth. He just gained some more respect from me.

That's too bad his family wouldn't let him come to the funeral. Too bad they didn't have a chance to clear the air.

Wow.

It sounds like he blames himself a lot since if Pantera was still around this wouldn't have happened. That's also what he's blaming the "media" for: contributing to the breakup in (i guess) a quest for gossip and drama. But that's a hard video to watch. I don't listen to pantera (although I certainly have known them for years) but that just about made me cry.

Me too, I was getting a little teary eyed. There was a lot to the breakup of Pantera. He's cited his anger with the media in Panteras own lyrics. I think it was probably a combination of that and a little bit of creative differences going on between phil and vinnie and dime.

Damn sad video, that's for sure.

I don't know if you can blame heavy metal music magazines for some random obsessed wacko. I think he's just angry with himself and his situation for not being able to reconcile his relationship with his old bandmates.

I agree. I don't think Pantera would have been getting back together, but I think he genuinely wanted to reconcile his differences.

i know I'm late but I just wanted to pay my respects to a guy who inspired a lot of people and was great at what he did. VULGAR DISPLAY was a really big thing in my high school on its release, it was just one of those albums you just had to get.

as I mentioned earlier, I saw Damage Plan less than a week before Dime was killed. I thought Damage Plan did the Pantara songs flawlessly, and Dime and Vinnie really didn't need Phil. I saw Superjoint Ritual at Ozzfest this year and Damage Plan blew them away.

Eh, I don't know about that. I guess it depends on what you are looking for in them. Damageplan were definitely going for the nu metal crowd and the singer is seriously weak. I love Dime and Vinnie, but this band was just not good enough for them.

Superjoint is in a class all it's own almost. I enjoy Phils lyrics, and I love the mix of Hardcore, metal, and punk that Superjoint blends pretty flawlessly. Definitely a more visceral, show. I can't speak for Ozzfest though, I could understand a less than stellar show on that tour.

I love Pantera, and I know they were Dime and Vinnies songs just as much as Phils, but I just don't want to hear anyone perform them except Pantera.

You can help out the families by getting your black Dimebag bracelet. I got mine.
