Re: 2023 Academy Awards

A bad decision to have this show when DST begins or unless people will watch the first 90 minutes to make up for the one less hour of sleep.

^ That was an entertaining read but I don’t agree with a single one of his choices.

Re: 2023 Academy Awards

Apparently Neil Young is a huge Angela Bassett fan and wants her to win and wrote a song for her

He will probably keep it short and be grumpy if he presents.

Is Eva Longoria relevant? What movie has she even been in?

I mean they can't have him announce Best Picture just to show his disappointment for Spielberg again, can they?

Granted she's not an A-Lister but she's been in some.

You mean the academy was able to get the star of Unplugging to appear on the broadcast? What a coup!

For the record, I don't have anything against Eva Longoria. I liked Desperate Housewives quite a bit back in its day. I just don't understand what value she brings to a celebration of the movies. I guess she still does makeup commercials, so maybe she'll present that award.

She directed the forthcoming film about the origin of Flaming Cheetos! It will stream on Hulu. Corporate synergy.

It's actually an incredible true story, the janitor who became a top executive. About time someone made a film about it.

Re: 2023 Academy Awards

I wonder if the series will cover the fact that there's no record of the guy being involved with Flaming Hot Cheetos or if it's just an adaptation of his memoir.

Montañez did live out a less Hollywood version of his story, ascending from a plant worker to a director focused on marketing. He also pitched new product initiatives, which may have changed the path of his career.

But Montañez began taking public credit for inventing Flamin’ Hots in the late 2000s, nearly two decades after they were invented. First, he talked about it in speeches at local business and philanthropy award ceremonies. Then the online media, hungry for a feel-good story, took his claims viral.

And nobody at Frito-Lay stopped him. Most of the original Flamin’ Hot team had retired by the 2000s, but the few who remained let the story spread unchecked.

Greenfeld contacted Frito-Lay in 2018 after first seeing that Montañez was taking credit for Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, triggering a company investigation. That process unearthed evidence calling his account into question and led the company to the conclusion it shared with The Times: “We value Richard’s many contributions to our company, especially his insights into Hispanic consumers, but we do not credit the creation of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos or any Flamin’ Hot products to him.”

The producers of his biopic, despite being informed of problems by Frito-Lay in 2019, announced a cast for the movie in early May.

The producers of the film and the publisher of Montañez’s latest book did not respond to requests for comment before publication of this article.

"Flamin’ Hot team"

They needed a team of people to come up with spicy Cheetos?

Re: 2023 Academy Awards

All kidding aside... Longoria is in the movie that has a nomination for Best Original Song. Maybe she will be introducing it.

Music (Original Song)
“Applause” from “Tell It like a Woman”
(Samuel Goldwyn Films)
Music and Lyric by Diane Warren

Ah, the contractually obligated Diane Warren nomination. Makes sense.

FWIW this is a recent phenomenom. For example btwn the 80's and 2001 she was nominated 6 times and they were all at least commercial radio hits " I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing" " How Do I Live" "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" etc;s in widely viewed movies.

They actually changed the voting method a decade ago,and since then she has racked up 8 nominations since 2014 mostly from song's/movie's no one has heard of. Basically she has gamed the system and has found a way to get enough of her friends in the music branch to get a nomination. It should actually be admired for how absurdly corrupt it is. It would be like if Anthony Hopkins or Kate Winslet decided to make a Troma Horror film every year and then were able to work enough of the acting branch to get them nominated for Class Of Nuke Em High Part 8

Re: 2023 Academy Awards

And just in case you think there were no other options available, Taylor Swift wrote an original song for Where The Crawdads Sing, was nominated for a Golden Globe, but got bumped by Warren here.

It's a false story, but that won't get in the way of a Hollywood movie:
