They could make a 4th set today where the story comes full circle. Where Mia's character is so affected by everything that has happened and aging that she goes off the rails as an older woman.

Unrelated but I Watched "In a valley of violence" the other day, didn't even know West made that. It has to be his worst movie.

There’s probably something there, especially in this age of corporatized porn (Pornhub et al), 24/7 global access, non-consensual uploads, #metoo, body dysmorphia, and so on. Done carefully, it might even top the other three films by adding layers of contemporary topicality to whatever ‘horror’ might be set in that world today.

Fuck no. It's fine. His worst movie is Cabin Fever 2. And it still would be even if he didn't loose control and made his version. An unsalvagable piece of shit no matter what.

Ti West’s “MaXXXine” test screened last night in Burbank, California. Reactions seem to be veering more on the positive side for this one. It’s an homage to Dario Argento and the “Giallo” genre!
Mia Goth is back for “MaXXXine,” which takes place in 1985, five years after “X,” as Goth’s “heroine” sets out in Hollywood to find fame. She gets a role in a cheapie horror sequel. Lily Collins is Maxine’s co-star. Elizabeth Debicki plays the director of the film. Giancarlo Esposito is Maxine’s shady agent.
L.A. is being terrorized by the “night stalker” who, for some reason, is eager to meet Maxine. Bobby Canavale and Michelle Monaghan are the detectives working the case. A scene-stealing Kevin Bacon is the corrupt private investigator hired by an anonymous person to find Maxine.
MaXXXine,” which wrapped production in May, is filled with “over the top gore” and kicks off its story to the sounds of ZZ Top’s “Give Me All Your Lovin’.” Apparently, there are also scenes that take place in Psycho’s famous Bates Motel (via Critical Overlord).
As for the secret actor who appears in “MaXXXine.” I know who it is, but let’s keep it tight-lipped for now because it’s said to be a major highlight in the movie.
For many in attendance, when asked, it was hard to pick what the best of the trilogy was — all three films are their own unique statements. What West has created is a trilogy that includes a Texan slasher (“X”), a technicolor nightmare (“Pearl”) and, now, a Giallo.
Goth is really hot these days. Her “Pearl” performance seems to have opened up a lot of doors for her career, and for good reason — she delivered one of the best performances of 2022, and absolutely deserved some awards recognition for it. Her performance in “MaXXXine” is said to be more subdued, but still “very stellar.”
There is currently no release date for “MaXXXine.” All we know is that it’ll be released in 2024. Where will it premiere? SXSW? Cannes?

I think Mia Goth's best film is Infinity Pool, she's so damn good in that.

I'm not sure going the "Giallo" route is the right one for a film set in the 80s.
Yes, the 80s nostalgia films are kinda done to death and West probably didn't want to make a Summer of '84 type film especially considering the subject matter, but 80s and Giallo doesn't mesh. Oh well, I'll reserve judgement till I see it.

With XXX right there in the title, and the first film being about pornographers shooting pornography and getting killed, I wouldn't have thought this would have Maxine working on a 'cheapie horror sequel'. I mean, there was some overlap between the two fringe worlds back then -- directors working in both industries, actresses trying to cross over and failing, etc. -- so maybe that's the angle. Hopefully we won't be rolling our eyes at yet another 'meta' treatment of 'scary movies', only with a giallo glaze.

When I saw that cool teaser at the end of PEARL when they showed it at TIFF, with the sound of a video tape machine loading, and the footage playing in 4:3 mode before going wider, and with the words “Los Angeles, 1985” right there on the screen, I thought, “well yeah, how do you not set a horror movie in the porn world of that era? It’s perfect!”
And then they said “cheapie horror sequel”. I can only hope that’s a misdirect of some kind. And having seen how cleverly and unexpectedly they teased this movie after PEARL at the fests, I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for now.
I’m no expert on 80’s porn (and yes, I saw my share), but I’ve read or watched enough articles, news reports, and documentaries throughout the decades to know about the dark side of that transition, and how people who previously thought of themselves as “performing artistes” (kind of a joke itself, in retrospect) were quickly transformed into worn-out fuck machines, many of whom (sometimes famously) spiralled into alcoholism, drug abuse, prostitution, crime, suicide, even murder. Just the feel of that trailer had me picturing Maxine feeling like she’d ‘arrived’ in L.A., and believing she was going to be some big porn queen, and maybe getting, uhh, fucked over by all the wrong kind of people, cracking, and going on a gory spree. Or, alternately, shifting into final girl mode and taking on someone else who cracks and goes on a gory spree. You could really get a lot of slasher mileage out of the whole grimy porn ‘scene’ of that era.

Yeah, have to admit I'm a little disappointed if this movie suddenly takes a completely different direction. I hate it when we are teased with a sequel and then when we get something that's nothing like what was suggested.

I just hope it’s good. I’m excited to see what we get. Pearl went a different direction and was fantastic. Ti West has finally banked some good faith with me.

A background actor on this movie (playing a dead body) is suing Mia Goth for allegedly kicking him in the head and causing a concussion after she had been warned about almost stepped on him during a previous take. The suit claims Goth then "invaded plaintiff’s privacy in the bathroom; laughed at plaintiff; taunted, mocked and belittled plaintiff; and dared plaintiff to do anything about it.” Anyway, he's seeking half a million in damages:

Ugh. Guess there’s more than just acting to the characters she plays.
I’m being utterly biased here, but to me, her dead-eyed face and demeanour in real life have often reminded me of the kind of person who’d do something like this for real, which is part of what made me think she was so ideal for PEARL (and possibly MAXXXINE?). Not that I thought she, specifically, would actually do it; just one of those feelings one gets based admittedly on an impression, Now, though . . . hmm.

The accusations aren't funny, but I can't help but be amused imagining Goth with her Peppa Pig sounding voice corning a poor extra in the bathroom and saying "Ya wanna do something about it, bitch?"

Re: MaXXXine (2024, D: Ti West) -- X sequel -- S: Mia Goth
EXCLUSIVE: Just in time for SXSW season, A24 has dated MaXXXine, the third movie in the Ti West horror franchise, for July 5. The first movie, X, made its world premiere in 2022 at SXSW, where the filmmaker promptly announced its sequel, Pearl, starring the franchise’s main scream queen, Mia Goth.
...
In MaXXXine, Goth reprises one of her two roles in X. The pic, which she co-wrote with West, follows Maxine (Goth), after the events of X, as the sole survivor who continues her journey toward fame, setting out to make it as an actress in 1980s Los Angeles.
In addition to Goth, MaXXXine features a murderers row including Elizabeth Debicki, artist and musician Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, award-winning artist Halsey, Lily Collins, Giancarlo Esposito and Kevin Bacon.
MaXXXine is produced by A24, Jacob Jaffke, West, Goth, Kevin Turen and Harrison Kreiss.
Combined, X and Pearl have grossed close to $25M worldwide.

I watched both X and Pearl for the first times in Feb. I didn't like X much, but liked Pearl.

I know they’re low budget movies, but putting in a trade story that X and Pearl have grossed a combined $25M is not exactly a great foot note.

Not bad considering the $2mil production budget for both films and the majority of A24 films don’t make more than $10-15 mil at the domestic BO.
