Here's one that actually was a bit of a shock: Kerry Fox and Mark Rylance in INTIMACY (1997).

Apparently the shot in question (you folks can look it up) – which is quite short – did generate some publicity before the film was released, but it wasn't on my radar so I went in cold and was indeed a bit shocked. Still a good movie but I wonder how necessary

Michael Winterbottom's 9 SONGS went even further, although the leads weren’t as well known at the time, and the unsimulated sex (which was all of it, as opposed to INTIMACY) was fairly well publicized before the film was released, although I could see it still shocking the unaware at the time.

9 Songs showed up online (can't remember if it was one of my streaming services) so I watched it. Other than the sex it was pretty boring. Not surprising but I was curious.

We had to get our parents to sign a form giving us permission to watch it due to that one scene. Plus our teacher talked to us about it before starting the movie.

Kind of surprised no one mentioned Bruce Willis' nude scene in Color of Night.

Hard to remember anything in that film except Jane March.

When my 7th Grade class watched it, the (Male) teacher didn't do/say anything. He was too busy grading quiz assignments from other classes at his desk. Oddly enough, a year later, we did have to get a signed permission slip for The Emerald Forest in 8th Grade. And (Even though I already saw the movie a week earlier) I vaguely remember that we had to get one for Schindler's List during it's theatrical run a few years later....

Oh, and while we're on Schindler, there was always one very distractingly, out-of-place nude scene in that movie to me (Almost close to "Shocking") During the prisoner-stripping at Auschwitz, one of the prisoners is in the center of the frame disrobing. It's only about a 4-second shot, but the positioning/angle of her body doing the stripping (Not to mention, a fabulous-looking figure for someone who has been suffering through abuse and malnutrition) was enough to completely take me out of the sadness and terror of the moment ever so briefly. I'm still surprised Spielberg was fine with leaving this shot in!

When I watched it, there was nothing but an excessively long censorship bar. Of course the fictitious director Borat would overdo it to make himself look bigger. I laughed.

Fair enough.

Wild Things has multiple twist endings in a row. One of them has Kevin Bacon step out of the shower, half-erect, and deep kiss another character that we didn't even know he liked. Up until then the movie only had typical boob shots which don't shock anyone anymore. The sudden increase in explicitness was a shock.

The 1983 live-action Disney film "Never Cry Wolf" features brief full frontal male nudity (and bare butt, too) in a scene where the main character strips naked and runs among a herd of caribou. I saw it in the theater when I was 10 years old and was pretty shocked!

Our Freshman English class watched the Franco Zefferelli version in 1991 and our teacher basically said "there is a brief flash of flesh" referring to the scene where Romeo flashes his bare butt. Given that she was a notorious disciplinarian who would NOT suffer foolishness, nobody said anything.

In terms of the thread topic, I think the most shocking had to be The Crying Game.

Quite different in my high school classroom when the teacher showed us Polanski's MacBeth. During the witches' nude scene, our teacher Mr. Zito actually paused the movie so he could discuss everything that had gone on so far, so the entire time behind him the TV screen is halted on the image of one of the naked witches. I remember after class, everyone was asking one another, "So... did he do that on purpose?"

Today I watched Get To Know Your Rabbit, an early comedy from Brian De Palma I'd never heard of, but was intrigue by the cast of Tommy Smothers, John Astin, and Orson Welles. I was very surprised by the second scene, where you see a quick flash (maybe only ten frames) of Tommy Smother's penis when he gets out of bed. Super Dave also appears in the film.

So, for 10 frames Tommy Smothers was actually Dick Smothers?

I guess watching that version of Mabeth was on Ontario's school boards' schedule in the eighties.

It would have been really weird if he was actually Dick Smothers' infamous son, Dick Smothers Jr.

Wasn't Basic Instinct's infamous cross the legs scene supposedly one of the most shocking in terms of nudity?

Yes, I remember tons of debate between us middle schoolers about whether she had on panties or not. Obviously, none of us saw it in theaters and were only passing around VHS tapes which weren’t very detailed. The UHD leaves no question.

Heh, my school was in small town Ontario as well, luckily our teacher must have been clueless about the scene, I don't think he was even paying attention to the film.
