I saw THAT in theaters?

Re: I saw THAT in theaters?
The advent of AMC A-list has made me a far less discerning consumer, but one day in 2019 springs to mind. First, I used an A-list reservation to go see the 2019 version of Black Christmas. When that was over I walked across the hall and did a (sneaky) double feature with Cats. It was a truly magical day at the movies.
Black Christmas was rough. Sitting up front was a woman with a very small child, very clearly new arrivals to Canada. The child was screaming crying (nothing even scary had happened, he just didn't want to be in there). Did she pick that movie just because 'Christmas' was in the title? They left after about half an hour, and I felt bad that it didn't occur to me to go over and suggest she take him into the new Star Wars that was playing at the same time.

Re: I saw THAT in theaters?
The most little-seen movie I've ever been to (at a regular, first-run movie theatre, not part of any kind of festival) has to be Leaving Metropolis in 2003, the adaptation of Brad Fraser's play Poor Superman. I'm assuming the title was changed and all references to Superman taken out for legal concerns. This was not in a big city, I was the only one in the theatre, and wonder how many other people went during its week long run.

This thread really jogged some memories.
I'm trying to figure out why fuck I saw Over the Top in a theater. It's not the kind of movie I'd go out of my way to see. Did someone drag me with them to see it? Did I think it was going to be an action movie since it had Stallone in it coming off of Cobra and Rambo: First Blood Part II?

Mortal Kombat: Annihilation
If that's not bad enough, then I'm more embarrassed to admit that I loved the movie at the time.

Heartbeeps (1981) - Andy Kaufman and Bernadette Peters star as two robots in love. Hilarity doesn't ensue. I was a kid, and this was one of the first movies that I remember leaving the theater afterward and thinking it was really, really bad.

Still haven't seen it. Don't recall it ever making the rounds on cable or getting a DVD release.

Re: I saw THAT in theaters?
Heartbeeps, had no idea this film existed. I am only slightly curious to find this movie and watch it (if it ever came to a FAST platform like Tubi/Roku/Pluto/Freevee, I would most likely put it on my list of stuff to watch). Also, I was born in 1971, so I might have seen ads for this film when I was young and just completely not remembered seeing them.
I have never walked out of a film, even ones that with hindsight I wish I had. Once such film (probably already mentioned in this thread) is Transformers Revenge Of The Fallen. The ones with the jive talking Decepticons. Of which these characters were only like 1/100th of the issues I had with this film.
I think I watched it after I had seen the latest Ice Age, a rare time where I said hey, another movie is starting up so why not and bought a ticket to this film (I rarely see more than one film in a day at theaters), and after I came away from the film with a raging headache. To be fair, I probably should have drank more liquids during this long film, and it was a warm day, but I still feel that it was the hot mess that was Transformers: ROTF that caused me so much misery. I had to sit in my car and try to let my head stop throbbing before I got on the road.
I knew from the lousy reviews it would be a loud action packed potential mess of a film, but if a film has a lot of action in it I can tolerate some really mediocre to bad films and just check my brain at the door, but the critics were right, this was an overly loud (and I do not just blame the sound in the theater being turned up too high) and over stuffed with action sequences type of film. And when the film had those rare moments where something wasn't getting smashed up against another item the quiet moments were not memorable at all because we are talking about a film with Michael Bay dialogue.
Yeah, out of the many films I have seen in theaters or in the comfort of my home, I would say that this Transformers film is always going to be one that I will not revisit (and have not since I saw it in theaters on I believe its opening weekend).
ETA: I searched for reviews of Transformers: ROTF, and found Stuckmann's review which was actually pretty darn funny and perhaps more entertaining than the actual film.

A while back someone posted a bunch of old Siskel & Ebert episodes, and I found myself fascinated by how many movies from the 1980s -- which was they early days of both cable television and home video -- have just completely fallen off of the radar.

Beat me too it!
Me too. That is definitely a battle scar kind of movie. Terrible. It's amazingly terrible too. The only reason why I watched it is I saw Avatar the night before with my GF and went out the next day to watch a movie with my family. Even though I really liked Avatar I'd rather watch a movie that I hadn't watched yet and Balls is what fit the time frame.

Wow you're right. I definitely saw it in theaters. And definitely saw a different movie than my family when they went to see Avatar. Now I need to figure out what that movie was...
Getting old sucks.
Edit: Maybe it was Sweet Home Alabama. I remember watching that in the theater and makes sense that I would watch that with my GF and not want to watch it again. Or maybe it was two totally different movies. Or maybe I'm just loosing my mind.

The first two TMNT movies in the early 90's and took it a step further and bought both movies on VHS from Costco.

Sorry to over-share but from my notes at the time.Biutiful: Dec 14, 2010, DGA
This is the first movie I've seen in a long time that I actively disliked. The guy has a miserable life. He lives in the slums, his ex-wife is a bi-polar ex-junkie lunatic, he exploits illegal immigrants for a living, and in the first act he learns he has cancer. What fun.
It was bad enough that the movie wallowed in all this misery but in gave me no insight into what might be learned from all this wretchedness. It was unrelentingly one note with no humor to leaven the load
