Streaming is the new way. Think of how many films became big only after releasing on VHS and later DVD.

I've only been going to the theater in recent years for new Star Wars movies, but now the good stuff is on DIsney+ and I'm quite okay with that.
I’m very happy for you that streaming serves your needs.
Lots of people still enjoy going to see movies in the theater. I personally feel that’s the best way to experience certain kinds of film. It’s unfortunate this won’t be in the theater.

I go to like 3 movies a year. I watch nearly everything at home. Having said that, even I recognize that this is one of those flicks that could have caught fire because of the critical reception. From a financial perspective, this could have likely recovered their cost to make and then some.

I guess in a perfect world there would be more theater/streaming releases. I enjoy both. For different reasons. I've always enjoyed the ambiance of a theater, no matter the scope of the film. I was never afraid of the theater even when the pandemic first hit.

And let's be honest : there have been a LOT of predator movies in theaters over the years and none have really been successful since the first one. This looks to be a lot better than most, but it doesn't strike me as unreasonable that the powers that be at Fox/Disney felt they could get more eyeballs on the property as a high-profile Hulu release than bringing it to presumably die a quick August death in theaters.

The thing is, before streaming, most everything came to theaters and you could still watch it at home later on tv/home video. Now a lot of the time there isn't that choice. That's frustrating to a lot of us. And streaming has started to affect the sorts of movies that get made and how they get made. Hollywood's business model has turned upside down. I'm sure a lot of us who stump for theatrical releases watch plenty of movies at home. We get the convenience. But we also understand some of the negatives that come with that convenience.

The "ambience" of the theater is exactly what turns me off. Expensive tickets, expensive snacks, people talking through the movie, 30 minutes of ads and trailers before the movie, and that's the ones that start at the advertised movie start time.

It's almost always generally unpleasant and I'd be glad to be rid of it.

Things change. There was a time when theaters were the only way you could see movies. Obviously some changes are viewed as a negative but it is the way it's going to be.

Variety, AV Club, Collider, the positive reviews have me excited to sit down tomorrow evening and put down the iPad and enjoy the film.

I go early(noon or earlier) so crowds are small, tickets are sometimes cheaper and there aren't that many kids. I'll eat after the movie, you're not required to eat as part of the movie (I would eat a meal when Alamo Drafthouse was open). 30 minutes of ads are usually at an AMC, I generally go local, so ads are kept at a minimum.

The ONLY time I'll go to a movie after 5pm is if a friend invites me to join. I don't understand why people love to go during the worst time.

I usually go on Tuesdays (cheap day) a few weeks out and haven't run into any issues of late. The only one that was super busy at that time was Top Gun.

I think this is the best of the sequels and while the bar wasent set all that high this had really good action and setting it so far back in history really did great for the story, I look forward to watching it again

Holy fucking shit was this awesome. My only grape was the cgi for the mountain lion and bear, but since the rest of the movie was so fucking awesome. It didnt even bother me at the end. I just love everything about this movie and its such a shame it wasnt in theaters. Definitely watching this again later today and will have some popcorn ready this time around. =)

Who was the actress? was this her first work? Her brother in the movie was badass too.

There's a small easter egg in the final part of the credits
Spoiler:
drawing - the tribe is on the cliff and the predator ship comes back.

Re: Prey (2022, D: Trachtenberg) -- Predator prequel

The last two Predator films I watched were Predators and Predator 2. Prey was better than Predators, but I prefer the characters (even though they weren't terribly deep) in the 1990 film.

Some of the photography in this new movie definitely warrants the big screen treatment, like the tracking shot near the beginning and a few of the wide shots when the gorgeous backdrop is in full view.

In the minus column, some of the CGI is a bit dodgy, and the parts shot on a sound stage are really apparent. What was it with the modern dialogue? Was it deliberately anachronistic? Some of it sounded like it was written for a B-movie.
Spoiler:
'Who invited you?'
'I've got this.'
'Bring it home.'

This sure ain't Dances With Wolves.

There's also crazy shifts in weather and sudden appearance of daylight in this movie.
Spoiler:
Wasn't it a clear night when the French trappers tied Taabe and Naru to the tree? The next thing I know fog has rolled in which is obviously lit by sunlight when the Predator jumps from tree to tree. Then there's a light snowfall near the end which must have been a freak storm because the leaves on the trees hadn't given any indication that it was late in the fall.

The re-design of the Predator gives it a fresh look. Also appreciated that its weapons are retro.

The fights aren't bad, but I couldn't make out what happened in at least one part.
Spoiler:
When the Predator is trying to behead Naru with its shield, what did she do to distract it? I re-watched that part three times, and I couldn't really tell what she did. The closest I could figure it was that she tears off one of its tusks and jams it in its face.

As of right now, my ranking for the series would be

Predator
Predator 2
Prey
The Predator
Predators

The Commanche dub is not under the audio selection. It's a completely separate video stream. I watched a few minutes of it and I didn't realize it was actually a dub, as in the movie was filmed in English. I thought they did alternate takes in Commanche. That combined with the janky way my Roku displays subtitles for Hulu made me switch back to the English. It's more of a novelty than anything.

Sorry to all of those who are sick of hearing of hearing it, but this should have played in a theater. The scope aspect ratio and cinematography alone should have justified a theatrical run. The fact that this is a really good movie in a summer with an exceptionally weak blockbuster slate makes it even sadder that it didn't get one.
