Sorry to all of those who are sick of hearing of hearing it, but this should have played in a theater. The scope aspect ratio and cinematography alone should have justified a theatrical run. The fact that this is a really good movie in a summer with an exceptionally weak blockbuster slate makes it even sadder that it didn't get one.

I hope it gets a theatrical release.. I would have loved seeing this in a theater. Way better than Predators and The Predator films and I like the small nods to the previous films. Did they ever say what Billy's heritage was from the original movie?

I just got through watching Grace Randolph's review and she straight up panned the film, saying that Disney was correct to send this to a streamer as it would make no money, and just attract hardcore Predator fans only. She said most of the film was not cinematic (she even panned the films color schema), and ultimately called it yet another meh straight to streaming film.
The commenters basically said I love ya Grace, but on this one you are wrong, lol. Her review does seem to be one of the small handful of outlier reviews that call this film bad. Hey, everyone is allowed to have an opinion. Other YouTube reviewers such as Jeremy Jahns enjoyed the film.

I have no idea who the hell Grace is but she is just plain wrong here. It's almost as if she watched a different movie with that review, so strange.

The Commanche dub is not under the audio selection. It's a completely separate video stream. I watched a few minutes of it and I didn't realize it was actually a dub, as in the movie was filmed in English. I thought they did alternate takes in Commanche. That combined with the janky way my Roku displays subtitles for Hulu made me switch back to the English. It's more of a novelty than anything.

Don't get me wrong, what we have is good, but it's easy to see where improvements could have been made.

I thought it was decent enough, but hardly worthy of all the gushing.
Not sure why they felt the need to change the Predator’s look, I didn’t care for their take.

I fully realize the majority of people wouldn’t want a Predator movie with subtitles, but I really wish this would have not been in spoken English. An Apacolypto style Predator movie would have ruled.
I’d rank this fourth out of the five films. Just ahead of The Predator. I really disliked the design of this Predator. Nevermind the fact it was pretty much all CG, the design itself wasn’t great. The lead actress was really solid. Before I started Prey, I realized she was in that horrible Ice Road movie and she was horrible in it. This was much better.
Man I’m glad that dog lived.
If this was in a theater, I’d have gladly given my money and felt like it was worth it. I hope there’s a physical release. I’d like to add it to my collection.

Not surprising
Prey Debuts as Highest-Rated Predator Movie on Rotten Tomatoes
Prey Debuts as Highest-Rated Predator Movie on Rotten Tomatoes
The critics have spoken, and Prey stands tall as the best-reviewed movie in the Predator franchise. Over at Rotten Tomatoes, a website that aggregates reviews from a variety of critics to calculate a certain "score," Prey currently sits at 92% fresh based on 143 reviews. Its audience score isn't too far behind, scoring 82% with more than 250 fan-submitted ratings. Its Tomatometer score officially makes Prey the highest-rated movie in the series, and that even includes the popular original film

This was a lot of fun and really elevated the franchise with a serious take on the concept. The lead actress immerses herself into the world and the role and makes you believe she could probably take on one of those ugly bastards for real.
Highly recommended, especially with the Comanche dub.

Re: Prey (2022, D: Trachtenberg) -- Predator prequel
Just finished this about 10min ago.
I see tons of folks raving over this and i cant help but feel like if it didn't feature Comanche people, there would be a lot less "oh my god this is the best Predator ever!!!" praise.
Pros:
-it was like the OG film in terms of the 1 on 1 hunt which I think is a huge plus for those who love the OG film.
-Native actors in the 1700s setting added to the appeal
-the music was good
-it was decently tense
-actress playing Naru has beautiful eyes
Cons:
-The predator reminded me of the Super Predator from Predators. Yuck.
-i didnt care for the Predator design. The face was was not great.
-Narus was a bit too Natasha/Black Widow bad ass in that she took on multiple grown men.
-honestly...nothing new happened in this film. It was the OG film rehashed, set in North America, with Comanche, set in 1700s, with a woman hero.

this was not bad. not bad at all. i loved the one on one fighting with the Predator. that's something we didn't see in the original which this hearkens back too. my only gripe is how Native Americans could speak fluid English in 1719. would have liked a native tongue and subtitles, but only minor nitpick. this was just a sequel done right.

I enjoyed this one but wouldn't say it was better than the original. Definitely second best, but that isn't saying much. I have a feeling if more critics had watched this one it wouldn't be registering as high rottentomatoes. I too hope this gets a theatrical release in the future, as it needs a big screen viewing. My only real gripe with the movie was an overuse of CGI for the animals an Predator itself.

Best film in the franchise since the original, easily. The cinematography was gorgeous.
