Re: Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (D: Fowler 2022)
I just read an article that I guess she's not the original original actress but has been the actress voicing tails since 2014. Still really awesome they used her. I can't believe that the people that made the past two movies that have been pretty much a love letter to Sonic fans are the same people who designed Sanic in that very first trailer? Was anyone fired over that design?

That whole subplot brought the movie down for me. I mean I realize you don’t watch these movies for the plot but there is no rational explanation. They know where they live! But they set all that up in Hawaii? Where Sonic isn’t even invited? What in the world? Like who wrote that script and was like yup let’s go with that as the B plot.

And then they didn't even go anywhere in Hawaii. Just at the four seasons. It's still always nice to see Hawaii though

From my review page ORBI-WAN GOES TO THE MOVIES:
SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2 (PG) - Very funny and audience-winking sequel sets Sonic against old and new adversaries, with help from a new ally and his loving human family.
Basically a continuation of the first film. If you saw and enjoyed the first Sonic movie in 2020, well, prepare for more of the same. Lots of pop culture references, a strong family foundation, hero worship, flashy visual effects, and a few in-law conflicts that are actually pretty funny.
Sonic (voice of Ben Schwartz) is still living with Tom and Maddie (James Marsden and Tika Sumpter), who have become surrogate parents to the blue speedster. Sonic spends some nights out aiding local law enforcement as “Blu Justice” but as we see in one sequence, he is still trying to get the superhero thing down without destroying blocks of his adopted town, Green Hills.
Sonic wants permission to have a little more freedom, so Tom and Maddie agree to allow Sonic run of the house while they go on a trip to Hawaii for Maddie’s sister, Rachel’s (a very funny Natasha Rothwell) wedding to hunky Randall (Shamar Moore). No sooner do Tom and Maddie leave, Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey basically phoning it in) shows up with an ally of sorts, Knuckles (voiced by Idris Elba), a super punchy Echidna, on the trail of an all-powerful crystal. At the same time, Sonic is teamed with Tails (voice of Colleen O’Shaughnessy), who is inventive and absolutely idolizes Sonic.
As Sonic and Tails attempt to lure Robotnik and Knuckles somewhere less damaging than the Wachowski household, the rings transport everyone to Siberia for a bit. Sonic and Tails end up spending some time at a Siberian bar, and instead of a rehash of the first film’s super-speed fight scene, we are treated to a dance battle between the furry friends and the Russian customers. Tails and Sonic easily win with a choreographed spin on “Uptown Funk” featuring multiple holographic versions of Tails, using one of her/his inventions.
To me, one of the highlights of the film was when, thanks to a Transport Ring, the battle between Robotnik and Sonic spills out of the frozen snow-covered mountains and onto the sun-kissed beaches of Hawaii just as Rachel and Randall are about to exchange vows. Let’s just say, the wedding ceremony is covered in several feet of snow. This is followed by a reveal that not only takes Rachel, Tom and Maddie by complete surprise, but turns Rachel into a raging Bridezilla. Aaannnndddd from here, the hunt for the all-powerful alien crystal continues. Stopping right there.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 continues its fast-paced fun with family and belonging at its core, just like the original. And yes, I will watch it again with my grandsons! I am giving Sonic The Hedgehog 2 4 out of 5 lightsabers, and look forward to any new installments
NOTES TO PARENTS (Mild Spoilers): Sonic The Hedgehog 2 is rated PG for action, some very PG-level violence, rude humor and mild cursing. “Hell” and the phrase “what a major a-hole” (without actually saying a**) is heard. Robotnik makes a few mushroom jokes, one of which slips “shiitake” in as a sly curse word, and another at some point. There are a few “oh my gosh” and “heck”. “Butt” is used a few times, as is the word “fart”. Again, Robotnik uses drones to chase and attack our heros. It is implied that Robotnik’s henchman, Stone, may have an unhealthy obsession with his boss.
MID- and AFTER-CREDIT SCENES: One mid-credit scene: Setting up a third film by referencing an old Top Secret “shadow” program. No after-credit scene.

Damn! This film was so much fun. Way more enjoyable than WandaVision 2.
Looking forward to the third one, but I'd be completely onboard if they gave Knuckles his own film.

Re: Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (D: Fowler 2022)
I saw this was hitting Paramount+ this week, and I said out loud to myself, yes...I can enjoy it this weekend. I recently caught up on the first film on Epix, and now understand why the films are considered crowd pleasers.
I think I mentioned it before on another Sonic thread, but several years back I was having Sonic issues pulled for my in-box (from the long-running Archie series, and I started getting the Sonic comic when it was in the late 100s/early 200s) and as luck would have it when I got curious about the value of the last issue of Sonic (I am aware that sometimes last issues of a long-running series can be a bit valuable) because the movies were on my mind, and well...yowza(!!!), that final issue of mine in at least Very Fine condition (prob. NM) is worth a small fortune (several hundred dollars).
I have not sold it yet, but so odd that one of the most valuable comics in my small collection is a handful of early Jonah Hex Bronze age books, and the last issues of the Archie Sonic series.
This weekend is packed with stuff to watch, Obi Wan, Stranger Things, Sonic 2, you could literally not leave your house during the Holiday weekend and have enough new stuff to watch that you will not run out of things to watch by the weekend's end on Monday. Crazy.
