^ Maybe they’re the “Special Edition” versions of the sequel trilogy. They added the episode numbers while they were inserting Jar Jar and Kylo yelling “Noooo!” throughout the movies.

I'm pretty sure they had Episode numbers in the crawls; they just didn't include them in the titles or promotions.

Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread

Star Wars Prequel Trilogy, Star Wars Original Trilogy Special Editions and Star Wars Sequel Trilogy in one viewing sounds like hell. I think I would rather be waterboarded.

I want a 20.8 sticker for the back of my car, just like the 26.2 and 13.1 marathon stickers!

Amateurs. That’s nothing compared to the MCU 22 movie marathon :

Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread

Going to the movies is supposed to be fun. After about 4 hours it stops being fun and turns into and endurance test.

I can maybe imagine sitting through a trilogy of movies in one day. Anything beyond that and I’m out. Especially when it’s a widely available series that I most likely have sitting on by DVD shelf.

Yep. You can see all the episode crawls in this video, all at once. Each has an episode number.

If they needed the numerals in their titles, then the OT films wouldn't count either

Maybe a viewing party would be better. Like, at a conference hall, with the front half of it darkened with a large screen, sound, and chairs, but in back a more lit area with snacks and drinks, and an open area to just mingle and talk. People could come and go as they please, and maybe even other rooms for some side activities, like a cosplay contest, Star Wars trivia, lightsaber fights, etc. Maybe have Solo and Rouge One screening in a loop in another room, so if there's a particular episode movie you don't like, you could skip over to the other screening room and watch one of those.

So basically, more of a celebration of Star Wars than a butt-numb-athon.

Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread

I went to a marathon of the OT back when I was in college in the mid 90s, before the PT was made. There was about a 20 minute break between each movie. It was in the large campus theater (Texas A&M). It was fun with the enthusiastic college crowd, and I didn't get bored or tired. I wouldn't want to do longer than that though.

A funny thing happened during the early scenes of Ep. 4. The Texas A&M Corp of Cadets (a ROTC-like program) is a very, very visible part of campus life (sometimes obnoxiously so) and the seniors in the program are known for their tall leather boots. In the movie, when the bad guys (Imperial troops, modeled after Nazis) come marching onto screen and there is a shot that is a close up of their very similar tall leather boots, there was a burst of laughter in the audience and some sheepish looks from the cadets in attendance.

https://www.harkins.com/events-and-s...ourth-marathon

The Harkins chain put out pre-sale tickets for it. I don't see Regal or AMC selling tickets for the marathon yet.

It's $60 You get a poster, lanyard and 25% off concessions

I assume pricing will be similar at other chains.

Starts at 7am and the last film starts at 2:40am the next day.

This is definitely not for most fans. You have to be a real die-hard to participate in this endurance test.

The Harkins schedule doesn't appear to have any breaks. The movies play non-stop. Unless you use the credits to take care of your business.

Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread

I did a Lord of the Rings extended editions marathon a while ago. That was around 10 hours and pretty rough.

Depending on what theater around here has it (if any), I might have a go at it, hmm...

This is a 20.8 hour marathon. Think about how exhausted you were at the end of the LOTR marathon, and think about immediately doing it again.

Yep, I know. And the LOTR movies did have a small break in between films (I think it was 15-20 minutes).

It would be rough, for sure, but I'm curious to give it a whirl, dunno. Star Wars movies feel like they go by rather quickly. They, at least, have a good deal of action in them. I think it would be even tougher if they went in release order rather than timeline order.

Yes, the LOTR extended edition movies do have 20 minutes in-between the films. They're called "the credits."

The Star Wars marathons are completely sold out in my area. Anyone here going to one? You know you all want to play hookie from work for 2 days and not tell your wives.

Anyway, The Phantom Menace re-release is tomorrow and AMC is offering this R2D2 popcorn and drink vessel for $50

Wow. I don't usually have any interest in that sort of thing but wow, strap that to my chest and watch me sit back in my chair and never get up.

Cool! They came up with a way for you to spill your popcorn and your drink all over yourself at the same time and charge you fifty bucks for the privilege!

Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread

I'll be seeing the re-release of The Phantom Menace on Friday, first time seeing it since probably the year 2001, so I'm looking forward to revisiting it with a much different perspective. And as a bonus, the local performing arts centre is screening Star Wars on Saturday, last time seeing that on the big screen would have been in 97.

Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread

I was hoping my local theater would get the 25th Anniversary showing of The Phantom Menace but no go. Closest is around an hour and a half away so not sure if my wife and I will go or just watch the 4K at home.

Reminds me of all of the overpriced crap that was sold when Phantom Menace originally came out. Fell for it then but not 25 years later.

Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread

It's so weird to think that The Phantom Menace came out twenty-five years ago.

The sixteen year stretch between Return of the Jedi and TPM seemed like an eternity.
