As much as I dislike TLJ, I can see enough of what he was trying to do with it that I'd sorta be interested in seeing what he did with a story separate from the main saga.

The main problem with TLJ is that it's so tonally different from TFA and the rest of the saga, but it's got some interesting ideas of what to do in a Star Wars movie.

I might be a little late to the party but I found a 6 episode series on Disney Plus called "Light and Magic". It's a more in depth look at the history of Industrial Light and Magic. It's really good and more in depth compared to the Empire of Dreams Documentary.

Being one of five people who actually likes TLJ, I hope that's true.

Yeah, it's a truly wonderful production. I just got around to watching it a few weeks back, taking one ep every other night. It was some of the best content I've watched on D+ yet.

It also works as a good rationalization towards some kind of eventual release of the OT sans SE effects. The doc takes time to show you the personalities and the conditions under which these films were created. In light of that, it makes it harder to justify wiping their work away forever.

I hope that's the case where Disney recognizes all the artists by showcasing their work in releasing the original theatrical cuts of the Star Wars trilogy. This series also makes you realize just how badly Disney has mismanaged the Star Wars brand.

It was a promising, edgy story that was pitched though. It was allegedly akin to Das Boot but following the crew of a CAT-CAT walker chasing a mouse droid.

Wow, thanks the rec! I watched the first episode tonight and it was fantastic. I never would have stumbled across this on my own, and I would have missed out big.

So giving Rey what we should have seen from Luke in the sequels instead of hobo Jake Skywalker? I don’t mind the character of Rey but I don’t really know how I feel about that.

I’m excited for all three, including Jedi Master Rey. Daisy had a great showing despite the uneven writing and she deserves another chance.

The Star Wars celebration live stream started at 5am PT due to the time difference in London and it usually runs about 6 to 7 hours FYI. I watched most of them when it was in Anaheim last year.

Obviously most of you can’t watch all of it. They will chop it up into segments later with the best interviews and information.

The three movies all sound promising - now they actually have to happen and turn out great. I like the different time periods, almost sounds like there's a plan going forward....

I don't think it's identity theft to take only the last name of someone else. There was no other Rey Skywalker she was taking the identity of.

Plus, it's not like she can go around announcing herself as Rey Palpatine. That'd be like introducing yourself as William Hitler. Was he an identity thief because he changed his last name after WWII ?

The identity thief stuff was mostly just a joke. Although I still stand by the impression of identity theft the end of RoS gave us.

My biggest issues with “Jedi Master Rey” is that we never got to see it. Her journey from nobody to Jedi Master throughout three fucking movies was 1. Magically have force powers. 2. Half-assed training with Luke, who was emotionally checked out the entire time. 3. She’s now “All the Jedi”!

It was so unearned that I don’t really care to see where she goes from there. I’d much prefer the “Skywalker Saga” stuff ends already.

We never really saw Luke do much to earn his Master Jedi title, in terms of training. From what I recall, there's like 3 explicit lessons:

1. In ANH - Luke using the lightsaber while blind wearing the blast helmet on the Millennium Falcon.
2. In ESB - Yoda's lesson with the rocks and lifting the X-Wing
3. in ESB - Luke going into the cave.

In RoTJ, when Luke goes to complete the training he explicitly abandoned unfinished in ESB, Yoda just says "no more training do you require." He's only recognized as a Jedi by the Emperor after a personal decision to not give into the dark side, not any particular Force skill

As for the Force skills, Luke seems to pick quite a few up without ever being shown how to do them. At the end of ANH, Luke uses the Force to aim his blast to destroy the Death Star, without training. ESB opens with him using a Force Pull, again without any training. In RoTJ, Luke uses the Jedi Mind Trick, which he saw Obi-Wan use in ANH, but we never saw Luke learn to use it.

The Skywalker Saga isn't great at showing the training. For the prequel films, they basically skip past Anakin's training, with Ep1 Anakin being untrained, and Ep2 him starting as a fully trained Padawan. With Rey, one could argue there's similar between-films training implied, since TRoS starts with Rey training with Leia, and it's implied they've been doing this a while. So there's the suggestion she's gotten extensive training, we just don't see much of it.

Then you throw The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker down the Legends memory hole, re-hire Daisy, John, Oscar, Adam, and Mark, and make a whole new Sequel Trilogy.

I hate to see Star Wars treated like Halloween or The Terminator, but they fucked the Sequel Trilogy up so badly that there's just no climbing out that goddamned pit.

I know older fans didn't gravitate towards Rey, but she was a big hit for the younger generations, so kinda cool and smart for Disney to bring her back.

Hmm, perhaps. But I think you’re oversimplifying it. Luke, in ANH didn’t know the Force from his asshole. Rey was out there Force pulling lightsabers with exact precision, in the heat of battle from the get-go.

Yoda gave the impression of indifference and ignorance when training Luke but he actually cared and knew what was at stake for Luke’s training. Luke training Rey was the complete opposite. He knew a lot but didn’t give a fuck-all to bother properly training Rey.

At the end of RoS, Rey single handedly defeated Palpatine with her Jedi power. At the end of RotJ, Luke was getting his ass kicked by Palpatine until Vader had a change of heart and stepped in.

Ming Na Wen had a hard time getting anything out of Billy Dee Williams on the 40th Anniversary of The Return of the Jedi panel… he doesn’t seem to be doing so well.

Luke seemed like a more gradual process to get where he was. In ANH the most he does with the Force is fires the shot to blow up the Death Star, but was aided by Obi-Wan telling him to use the Forcw, which I guess in and of itself is Luke tapping into the Force but if he already has it and the message was telegraphed he’s not necessarily actively using it.

I don’t hate the character of Rey by any means but they made her be able to do a lot quite easily and then even more than Luke and a bunch of other great Jedi.

So I was looking up the autograph and photo op list for guests at Star Wars celebration in London just out of curiosity.

Unsurprisingly, Ewan McGregor is the most expensive at $300+ USD for autographs and photo ops. And he's completely sold out. Also, McGregor has COVID restrictions since he's currently working, so you can't touch him or stand near him. The person and him are divided by a droid.

The 2nd most expensive appears to be Ashley Eckstein, who is the voice over actor for Ahsoka. She's $210+ USD. Wow. I follow her on Instagram and she seems very nice and all, but wow that's quite expensive for a VO actor.

I've done a lot of autograph and photo op cons and there appears to be a pretty big mark up since it's "Star Wars"
