New Star Wars movie in development. From the co-creator of Lost, Watchmen, The Leftovers and writer of Prometheus. The director worked on the Ms. Marvel Disney plus series. Posting it here since there’s not much info yet.

I like Ms. Marvel. The creators were very passionate about that series. I thought it was well done. I compare it to Moon Knight, which was trash.

Since this movie is still being written, it’s going to be at least a year maybe 2 before they even start filming. This movie is nowhere close to being a reality yet.

So absolutely no info on what this film may be about, just that they are writing a script? Good to know, I guess.

So plenty of time to kill this one too... or re-write it... or bring in a new Director.

Now I’m seeing this I set after Episode 9 and may have sequel trilogy characters.

If they’re trying to get Daisy Ridley back, maybe they’re going to promise her one shot adventures that aren’t necessarily in a story arc.

Really the only thing about this that gets me even "Luke" warm is that it could be set after the sequels. Single films tell me they still have no long term plans.

I could see them taking a note from the MCU and doing single films that build to a big event/crossover type film. Maybe that's what the franchise needs to breathe some new life into it.

I'm sure creative people could come up with a compelling post ST story (although Disney hasn't proven it with their movies so far -- save Rogue One)... that said, why? The rebels just wiped out the big bads (again) and all is well in the universe, right? What now? Political uprising? Trade Federations? Tax Blockades?
Would anybody be shocked if a clone of Palpatine is still floating thru space and force Mary Poppins'ed his way onto a cruiser and built another Death Star? Just go WAAAAY back in time or WAAAAY forward.

The problem that Disney has (and too many fans at the same time) is thinking that the Empire is the only threat in the galaxy. There's a lot going on out there, and they just need a writer willing to look out into the stars and come up with something else.

I like Star Wars.

I don't think that would work for Star Wars like it does for the MCU. The MCU works (or worked, the jury is still on everything post-Endgame) because it follows the rules established in the shared-universe comic books. Where you have individual properties like Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, and the Hulk, and then they can bring them together in the Avengers, then build toward a massive crossover.

Star Wars isn't a superhero universe. It's basically high fantasy presented as space opera. As such, I think that every film they do needs to have some kind of epic scale, and there isn't really a lot of room in there for smaller stories that build toward a larger scale.

I think that Star Wars' greatest strength is its scope. We've mostly seen the OT, but there is a lot of history in that universe that could be presented. The founding of the Jedi Order. The creation of the Sith. Sith Civil Wars. The Rise of various Sith Lords like Darth Bane and Darth Plageuis. Exar Kun. These stories would all take place over various time periods and would each have their own aesthetic.

I think the best thing Disney could do would be to forget the sequel trilogy, and instead of trying to polish that turd they shit out, move forward several centuries in the timeline and dive into the past.

The Sequel Trilogy was so short-sighted and poorly developed that it derailed the franchise. They destroyed the legacy of the PT and OT, and replaced it with something that was just a watered-down rehash of the characters and plots we saw in the first six movies. If they lack the will to formally decanonize it, the need to just ignore it and move on.

Of course, at this point, I don't trust the leadership of Disney and Lucasfilm to actually develop anything watchable even if they move beyond the PT/OT/ST.

There's so many of these projects in the air I have no idea who is in the works to do one or not.

Interesting story about being introduced to Star Wars via games, that seems to happen a good bit. My own kid started playing the LEGO Star Wars games when very little and didn't get into the movies and shows until later.

And I've watched at least a few YouTube reactors that started off playing things like Fallen Order or KOTOR and then watch the movies.

Just greenlight more shows, keep people hooked on the Disney+ subscription fee, and they'll make way more revenue than any single movie in a month.

Kennedy is akin to Daniel Snyder. We all know neither is competent, rarely does anything good ever comes from these two but there they are, letting down their fans across the world.
