Agreed, easily the weakest 15min stretch in the OT. Could've helped considerably by just cutting the comedy routine about getting captured by the Ewoks, they could've just met them and followed them to the village. Replace Threepio story time with the Rebel team planning the next day's attack, etc. Also a few minutes could've been given to Luke giving himself up to the Empire, which could've been a cool scene.

I have to say that the PT really made the whole throne room scenes better, IMO. I know many hate the PT so I'm not trying to convince anyone, but it worked for me. The whole 6 movie arc comes to a culmination when Luke/Vader/The Emperor meet on Death Star 2. Palpatine's plan that unfolded when he was a Senator in Episode 1, Vader's choosing between his son/master, and Luke deciding to throw down his saber is the trifecta that really brings everything together. Don't get me wrong, there is ALOT wrong with the PT in terms of execution (that we have all debated for years), but this is the one payoff that works because of the PT backstory.

Especially when the timeframe between Empire and Jedi is what, a month or so?

Rescuing an Ewok who was being abused by some stormtroopers for their amusement would have worked a lot better. They still could have had the "golden god" reaction to Threepio and all that, but the capture, cooking scene, and all that was pointless.

Six months according the novel. While leaving Tattooine, Han has apparently been told and he comments on "six months of wide-awake nothing" while in hibernation.

And there were comics going on between the two movies, showing them hunting for Boba Fett, so Luke was getting field experience, not just sitting on his thumbs.

It was a quick transformation simply because Lucas condensed Episode 6,7,8,9 all in one movie to wrap everything up. If you read some of the original 7,8,9 notes from back in the early 80's (I believe Gary Kurtz released them), the 'other' not Leia. Luke would go looking for his sister in 7,8,9. Luke wasn't supposed to meet face to face with Palpatine until Episode 9, as that was moved up to Episode 6. I'm sure there would have been more character growth after ESB in terms of Luke becoming a Jedi if there were a true 7,8,9 back then in the 80's. You guys can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Lucas was burned out from Star Wars, he was getting a divorce, so Episode 6 was mashed together to get it over with.

In the end, we got Rey meeting face to face with Palpatine in Episode 9. Thanks JJ for your originality!

I wondered if he was doing a (poor) cosplay of the 5th Doctor, but apparently he was at a St. Patrick's Day parade and that is shamrock on his coat, not celery.

That threw me for a second too, I wonder how he would do as a Doctor? Maybe just in a special like the Rowan Atkinson one.

I think the entire UK would revolt if the BBC hired a non-British actor to play The Doctor, especially an American. At the least, he'd have to do a British accent.

Considering how badly the Whittaker/Chibnall era has been received, I think most Brits would welcome Mark Hamill as the Doctor as long as the writing was good.

I lurk about some Whovian forums, and I don't think I've seen anyone who likes the direction DW has taken since Chibnall took over.

I'm fine with Doctor Who as it currently is. Don't assume where you frequent is representative of the public as a whole.

And personally, I like Whittaker as The Doctor. I would be fine with Mark Hamill as the Doctor as well, but I'm American, so I don't have the same sense of national pride that the Brits do over the series. Even with the 1998 backdoor pilot TV movie being co-produced by FOX, they kept The Doctor British.

I love Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor but I have the same problem I did with Capaldi’s run - they’re great portrayals but saddled with inconsistent stories.

Jodie’s run got a great boost by bringing Sacha Dhawan as an adversary, so maybe they’ll keep improving.

For being a variety show I enjoy the Holiday Special and it's not nearly as bad as it's made out to be. Next time I have Disney Plus I might watch the Ewok movies again as I haven't seen them since the 80s.

The Holiday Special is awful. Every bit as terrible as anyone says that it is. The Boba Fett cartoon is the only kind of decent part.

I’m kind of interested in watching the Ewoks made for tv movies. I can’t remember if I’ve seen them or if I have it’s been a long time.

So this isn't the whole holiday special, just the cartoon. I remember watching the ewok movies as a kid, and tracking down VHS copies a number of years back.

I watched them recently since I really liked them as a kid and they're pretty terrible. Not in a good way either they're mostly a slog to get through.
