I actually think these will be the RJ ones and the D&D movies will be released on Disney+.

It seems like the Benioff and Weiss trilogy is currently on the front burner, though the Mouse has been cagey on details.

Looks like they’re doing one theatrical trilogy, and a second one won’t be seen for another ten years, if it even materializes at all.

This seems like a pretty damning vote of no confidence for the franchise.

The "fans" are going to shit all over whatever they do. One trilogy every ten years or ten movies per year. It's no wonder they have lost confidence in the franchise.

I'd like to see one "big" trilogy every once in a while, with smaller stories in-between, not necessarily interconnected like the MCU.

Re: Future Star Wars projects discussion thread - news, rumors, etc.

Does anyone, aside from me, think this trilogy could focus on Rey or Kylo? I can't see Disney making the same mistake that Lucas did and let a core cast of characters disappear for 35+ years.

I want to be done with the current cast of lackluster characters and move to the KOTOR timeline... but I don't think that's happening immediately.

From interviews I get that Daisy Ridley is done with Rey. I am sure Driver would want to move on too.

I have to wonder if word of mouth on Game of Thrones will affect that. I don’t see Johnson’s trilogy actually happening after so many people hated TLJ, and this final season of GOT is starting to look like it’ll have a similar lacklash.

they'll toss a shitload of money to her in 15 years and she'll return for a new trilogy.

Then someone can subvert our expectations and ruin her character too.

With the title being Rise of Skywalker... is it going to fall in 2.5 hours too? I just have a hunch that this character set isn't truly over.

Yeah, that’s a fair point.

Folks are really turning on Game of Thrones as it rushes to a conclusion, and it’s disappointing many of its long time fans just as The Last Jedi did.

The upcoming trilogy is reportedly from Benioff and Weiss.

It's not official, but apparently the Rian Johnson trilogy is off for the foreseeable future. I caught this information from The John Campea show on YouTube who has a source in Disney. If you don't know who Campea is. He's a movie pundit who used to work for AMC Theatres. He's a very knowledgeable guy in the industry.

I'd be shocked if Rian Johnson has any more involvement with Star Wars.

I thought Gareth Edwards did a great job... I'd love to see more of his vision.

You may think that, but considering Lucasfilm brought in Tony Gilroy to rewrite and reshoot Rogue One, they may not agree.

Considering their JJ Abrams and RJ debacle, I don't trust Disney to make a solid choice regardless. I was firmly behind the D&D thing until this last season of GoT.

Maybe RJ should have brought Tony in too... clappj, that was for you.

I’d love to see his vision fully executed. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Rogue One style films are what I want to see. Nothing against Gilroy’s efforts to satisfy the rodent overlord, but you can tell things were hacked and spliced together. I want to see what Edwards had done.

Sure, you can want to see Edwards version, but as it is you can't definitively say his version is better. Do you even know if the scenes you like in the final cut were his or Gilroy's?

Rogue One as is actually is my favorite of the Disney era Star Wars films. I'd be curious to see the original cut by Edwards though.

He was done when Disney execs had to step in to solve the problem.

He won't get any streaming material either. He better hope his self-funded film "Knives Out" saves his career because the major studios are treating him like kryptonite right now.

Mine as well. I really enjoy the spin off ideas. Just too much too soon. Perhaps the spin-offs should be the direct to streaming content?

If you check out the release map Disney released they have almost every month covered for years. They should just take their time with Star Wars and make them major event films. I'm fine with every 3 years.

Oh, no, no ... sorry if that sounded as if I was crapping on Gilroy, that was not my intent. I think Rogue One in it’s current form is still the best Star Wars we have gotten since Empire. Gilroy did not do anything wrong; I’m just saying the seams show where Disney wanted changes made and two different ideas were stitched together. Not his fault without completely reshooting everything.

I would love to see Edwards’ movie. I’d also like to see what Gilroy would have done from the beginning. I’m not taking one over the other necessarily, I’m saying I love the notion of a gritty war film off-shoot that actually tells the story of the actual “Star War” instead of another “who’s your daddy 23-and-Me Skywalker adventure”. Gilroy still gave us that war film, just a different view of it.

I am looking forward to the two Disney Plus series far more than I am looking forward to Episode IX. Kathleen Kennedy and Disney have just royally botched every film they have given us. I’m not saying they are bad films, but they are aimless, directionless, troubled productions and it reflects on screen.

That’s too bad. While there are parts of TLJ that rub me the wrong way, it is mostly a well made film. What was missing was somebody overseeing it, managing the brand, and keeping the filmmaker(s) on track with the overall property. It was almost as egregious as nobody being willing to say “uh, no” to George Lucas during the prequels.

It isn't much much different than my job. After 8 years of no turnover in my small department (6 positions) we got a new supervisor. In the four years since then, we’ve turned over two of those spots three times each with each new hire lasting less than 14 months. At some point SOMEBODY has to look at the supervisor and ask what is happening. Same thing with Disney and Kennedy ...
