Rogue One hamstrung, yes... Solo, no. There are 10 years of open space between Solo and ANH. I almost wonder if Solo was the first movie released (instead of TFA) how well it would have been received and how much it would have made. TLJ really killed a lot of peoples expectations and no doubt Solo took the brunt of it.

The thing is you’re going to be telling a story with a known outcome with a prequel. There’s really not much getting around that it’s making an entertaining film that’s key. To me both the anthology films have been good so far. Solo shouldn’t have released when it did. That was its worst enemy and I can’t believe no one at Lucasfilm/Disney had the foresight to see that was going to be a problem.

Didn't both Rogue One and Solo suffer from directorial changes and reshoots?

Solo changed directors and Ron Howard re-shot a lot of the film, Rogue One didn’t change directors but was re-cut. I don’t know if I’d say either suffered though. I enjoyed both movies. Who knows how different the originals are but what we have for both I’m okay with. I think there’s been some obvious issues behind the scenes creatively which should be ironed out before moving forward with more films though. I think putting more films on hold for now and regrouping is a good idea for now.

20 years from now they be rebooting the whole thing. And mark my words "Ewan Mcgregor" will play Obi-Wan. It be like the actor that played the Emperor but you know

In 20 years, it could be entirely CGI.

Re: Future Star Wars projects discussion thread - news, rumors, etc.

I hope the McGregor Obi-Wan movie still happens at some point. That’s been talked about for quite a while as something a lot of fans want even before Disney acquired Lucasfilm. There are still a lot of good ideas that can be mined from Star Wars that involve both prequels and original ideas. Hopefully they can get things back on track soon and make some more good films.

For Rogue One, Lucasfilm brought in Tony Gilroy not only for rewrites, but to direct the reshoots.
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/he...shoots-1100060
In June 2016, Lucasfilm hired the Oscar-nominated writer to rework Rogue One: A Star Wars Story after the studio was unsatisfied by the state of director Gareth Edwards' movie. By August, he was taking a leading role in postproduction and oversaw reshoots to fix a few issues, including the film's ending. Gilroy ultimately was paid millions for his work, and many consider him the film's ghost director...

Choosing his words carefully, Gilroy signaled how much of the project was changed after he boarded. (Star Ben Mendelsohn has said "an enormously different" version of the film exists.)

"I came in after the director's cut. I have a screenplay credit in the arbitration that was easily won," said Gilroy.

Ah okay, I spaced that I guess. I don’t think the fact that there was a different director was publicized as much with Rogue One as much as the fact that there were reshoots done.

There was a different director doing reshoots, but it was much less public than what happened with Solo. Gareth Edwards is still the credited director on Rogue One.

That's what I'm expecting along with a new Power of the Force line by Hasbro. Same thing happened in 1995 when Star Wars was "rebooted" with a new toy-line and then the prequels.

Mos Eisley movie sounds interesting. I've heard good things about the Tales from Mos Eisley book. But rumor is that movie has been shelved.

Re: Future Star Wars projects discussion thread - news, rumors, etc.

I have to say after watching Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom I’m glad Trevorrow isn’t directing Episode IX. I know he didn’t direct Fallen Kingdom but he had at least a hand in writing it and it’s by far one of the worst big blockbuster films I’ve seen in quite a while. Jurassic World itself which he did direct while better than the sequel wasn’t all that great either in my opinion.

They should create a series of stories set in the Knights of the Old Republic time period.

Wonder if Whedon will get to do a SW movie.

Abrams isn't too old, he'll be 52 this week. Whedon is actually a bit older.

I'm sure they'll get the Russo brothers to do a SW movie at some point.

Since all non-movie stories prior to Disney are now unofficial, KOTOR never happened.

Sure, but KOTOR-era stories were never canon before, either. Lucasfilm has shown a willingness to bring in Legends into the new canon, and with such an open field to play in (thousands of years before the original movie), it seems like an obvious way to experiment with new plot elements and directors.

A Darth Revan toy was released under LF/Disney's watch, so I imagine they will get their eventually.

Rumor mill in overdrive

According to a new report, Ewan McGregor is going to reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars 9. Last week was a big one in terms of news surrounding the Obi-Wan movie that Lucasfilm has in development. It was first announced that the studio had put all of the upcoming Star Wars anthology films aside for the time being, which included the Obi-Wan film.
Rumour: Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars movie heading straight to Disney’s streaming service

Like I said before I hope that’s the one movie that does move forward. Coming from someone who can’t stand the prequels Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan is awesome and I want to see more of him in the role. Not exactly sure how you’d fit him into Episode IX though.

I know a lot of people clamor for this but I don’t have a lot of interest to be honest.

Re: Future Star Wars projects discussion thread - news, rumors, etc.

Unless by some stretch (and I think it’s pretty out there to believe) it’s revealed that Kylo was deceiving Rey about her parents and Obi-Wan is her father and there’s some sort of flashback. Then again there’s that unwritten Star Wars rule about not having flashbacks. I’m willing to dismiss the rumor as bs. I don’t really see another reason for that version of Obi-Wan to show up. Maybe you could age him up and try to play it off like he is old Ben for some kind of appearance but doubtful.

Unless Rey was frozen in carbonite at some point, I don't think Obi-Wan could be her father.

Or I meant a descendant of him not that he was her father.
