Marvel had done a good job of representing diversity in their recent films, why stop now by casting an actress that is already a part of the MCU?

Because she's hot AF and we need to see her outside of the make up! But maybe she is in the same role...

“One of the first” dozen or so to have played two roles in the MCU:

Star not background actors and cameos. None of those are anywhere equatable. The biggest example would be Mahershala, but those Netflix shows, regardless of what's been said, don't factor in to the films at all.

Was she a star in Captain Marvel? I don’t even remember if she had any lines. Plus, she was covered in blue make up.

She had her own poster.

But then so did the cat.

That was completely obvious to me as soon as they announced he was going to be in an MCU film the other day. It would have shocked me if it was anything else.

This is the one upcoming MCU movie that I'm not quite excited about yet.

re: Marvel's Eternals (2021, D: Zao)

Here's the new, expanded synopsis:

Marvel Studios' The Eternals features an exciting new team of Super Heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ancient aliens who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, an unexpected tragedy forces them out of the shadows to reunite against mankind's most ancient enemy, The Deviants.

The outstanding ensemble cast include Richard Madden as the all-powerful Ikaris, Gemma Chan as humankind-loving Sersi, Kumail Nanjiani as the cosmic-powered Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as the super-fast Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as the intelligent inventor Phastos, Salma Hayak as the wise and spiritual leader Ajak, Lia McHugh as the eternally young, old-coul Sprite, Don Lee as the powerful Gilgamesh, Barry Keoghan as the aloof longer Druig, and Angelina Jolie as the fierce warrior Thena. Kit Harrington was cast as Dane Whitman.

Directed by Chloe Zhao, who helmed the critically acclaimed Sundance film The Rider, and produced by Kevin Feige, The Eternals opens in U.S. theaters on November 6, 2020.

I kind of agree. I’ve been on board with the other films, but this one just doesn’t sound that interesting to me. I’ll see it for sure though.

re: Marvel's Eternals (2021, D: Zao)

This is about the same point relative to release that I wasn't feeling Guardians Of The Galaxy either.

However the end result will probably be much different as that was also pre-Civil War, pre Spidey in the MCU and pre-epic conclusion to ten years of storytelling.
The Eternals is dropping into a much different landscape where I'm already sated (overstuffed?) by big superhero teams that saves the world. I'm primed for smaller scale conflicts, and more intimate character orientated stuff now.

re: Marvel's Eternals (2021, D: Zao)

Last summer, Marvel head Kevin Feige cleared up some confusion about when audiences could expect to see the studio’s first queer superhero fighting to save the world on the big screen. After initial reports that Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie would explore her canonical bisexuality in Thor: Love & Thunder, Feige explained that the MCU’s first gay hero would technically arrive in Eternals.

In a new interview with Logo, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan star Haaz Sleiman revealed that he’s actually slated to play the man married to Brian Tyree Henry’s Phastos—one of the titular Eternals—and in the film, the pair will parent a child together.

Sleiman explained that in addition to depicting what married life is like for the couple, Eternals also features a moment where Phastos and his husband kiss. The kiss, Sleiman said, takes place during a moving scene that left everyone on set crying, which he saw as a testament to how important the film’s approach to queer representation will be.

“For me it’s very important to show how loving and beautiful a queer family can be,” he said. “Brian Tyree Henry is such a tremendous actor and brought so much beauty into this part, and at one point I saw a child in his eyes, and I think it’s important for the world to be reminded that we in the queer community were all children at one point. We forget that because we’re always depicted as sexual or rebellious. We forget to connect on that human part.”

Given Marvel’s previous reluctance to barely acknowledge the existence of queer people in its films, Sleiman’s revelation is rather significant—especially considering that, historically, the majority of queer characters have been and continue to be portrayed by white actors. What isn’t all that surprising is that Phastos is going to have a relatively traditional nuclear family, because, hey, this is a Disney production after all.

Eternals hits theaters November 6.

In spite of being Jack Kirby's creation, it never really reached an iconic status for me, feeling more like a re-branded re-boot of his Fourth World characters. It's not a property I've been waiting to see brought to life. Still, I'm more than willing to see what they can do with it.

As someone who's not into comics, I knew nothing about GotG but the first trailer grabbed me and I've loved the characters ever since.

Similarity, I know nothing about The Eternals so that first trailer better be good.

Most comic book fans knew little to nothing about Guardians before the movie too. It was never really a popular title.

Not surprised that this was pushed back, though I was wondering if they might do the Disney+ premium thing with it.

The Disney + premium add on was a failure from most accounts I’ve read.

Eternals is way too big of a movie to just dump to paid streaming.

The
Guardians had a smart-ass garbage panda and a talking tree stump. This just looks lazy. The cast would be more at home on the CW.

It probably doesn't help the movie prospects when it looks like Inhumans 2.0, does it?
