I would think she’s worthy of a theatrical film personally. The biggest issue is a villain. Could have her face off with one of Batman’s Rogues though. Put her against Harley, Catwoman, or Ivy.

EXCLUSIVE: Even though audiences won’t see Robert Pattinson in The Batman for another eight months, Warner Bros. and DC Films are putting the wheels in motion on its next big superhero. Sources tell Deadline execs are expecting to test a group of actresses starting this week for the highly coveted role of Batgirl. Though test deals are still being locked up and some have already passed, some of the talent expected to test for the role include Isabella Merced, Zoey Deutch and Leslie Grace. We have also heard Haley Lu Richardson’s name but she might have bowed out before the test process.
The studio had no comment on the testing process.
The film will bow on HBO Max, marking one of the first major DC properties to bow exclusively on the streamer. Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah will direct the pic from a script by Christina Hodson. Kristin Burr is producing.
While plot details are under wraps, it is known that Barbara Gordon, the daughter to Commissioner Gordon will be the character behind the cape in this version. Gordon is the most established version of the Batgirl character and was first introduced in 1961 as Betty Kane.

I would love to see Zoey Deutch in this.

I think all three of the listed actresses would do a great job, though is it really that highly coveted a role if it's an HBO Max exclusive?

Really liked Isabella Merced in that Dora live action movie. But any of them could work in the role.

I still think it’s dumb this has to be something for HBO Max. If WB was actually able to properly handle DC there’s no reason this couldn’t be a theatrical release that’s part of a larger cinematic universe, whether that be a DC one or a Batman one.
There’s so much you can do with Batman and the Bat-Family that it seems like a downgrade to do a movie for HBO Max unless it’s intending to tie-in elsewhere, which with the track record of these DC films to date who they fuck knows if it will or not. More than likely not, and it seems like it’s being dumped there because it probably will be smaller in scale.

If it was announced as a Batgirl series that ties in with other existing things from the DCEU then sure that could be cool. As is though it comes across a bit like they’re dumping this movie on HBO Max because they don’t have enough faith that it’ll do well as a theatrical release.

Yeah if they actually announced that this was a part of some bigger DC cinematic universe than it would be more like the Disney + shows (which to this point have all been based on characters that were already introduced in the movies... though I'm excited for Kamala and others upcoming). The fact that they're going after actresses who have at least headlined movies before does seem to indicate that it'll be more of a prestige project than, say, Titans, though.

I thought she was great in In The Heights and not just another pretty face (but yeah, she is extremely cute and gorgeous), and since this will be on HBO Max I am really looking forward to learning more about this film. This film will most likely air late 2022, correct?

Can I just say it's refreshing to see a forum not worry about ethnicity and just talk about fit and merit?
As for the casting, I gotta see more. I'm sure they know what they're doing....
Actually I'll mark this as "wait and see" lol

Also, if this is trying to circle back to me hating on DC it’s not the case as I’ve been fairly positive with some of their upcoming projects. I’m the one who’s always bumping the thread for The Flash film whenever there’s a slight update.
I want something quality as I like Batgirl as a character, but I kind of feel like putting this movie on HBO Max cheapens it a bit. Seems only a slight step above the CW Batwoman show or something. Maybe I’ll be wrong.
