I don't think an adult Edward Furlong would have worked for T3 or any other sequel. I mean yeah, it would have meant more to have Furlong meet Arnie again rather than Stahl, but Furlong doesn't have the look or demeanor to portray an adult John Connor (not that Stahl did either).
He was pretty awesome in The Crow: Wicked Prayer even though the movie got super low ratings.
John Connor is really not some type of special character that should be intricate and played by someone so popularly famous.

Weird, was rolling through channels last night and there was a young Furlong. The movie was American Heart, he made it after T2.

From WIKI:
Furlong has battled alcoholism and drug addiction, which derailed his career. He went into rehab in October 2000.
Furlong said in December 2006 that from 22 to 26 he was "on and off" hard drugs, adding that, "I was a heroin and cocaine addict. It was really scary." In the same interview, he said, "I don't even think about (partying) anymore. It seems lonely now: running and clubbing and doing coke. I have nightmares about doing hard drugs. I'll wake up and I'm like, 'Did I relapse?'

I thought he had died. IMDB shows him being fairly active, but not in anything that I can recall seeing.

Hearing this could be set in Mexico City and that James Cameron & Tim Miller are seeking an 18-year-old Mexican actress to play the young female lead, Dani Ramos, as well as a Latin actor with fight/stunt background to play the new villain. https://t.co/ErbYgR6pEe
