Scott Adkins should be the new Terminator.

from the T3 game, not canon but still. I think the game the was bad too, as most tie-in games are.

The guy can't act all that great. That may be of benefit for it. Kind of a waste of him though. But... it's a Terminator film. Any guy at his level would take it.

As much as I like the Terminator films (including the ones that most people don't like) I think its time to throw in the towel. It just doesn't seem to connect with people anymore and leaves a good majority of the fanbase that still cares disappointed. Plus I don't know how many times they can reboot and start a new storyline only to stop it right away and expect people to still care. James Cameron would be nice to see back at the helm but he seems to be one of those directors who has all these great ideas that never get done.

He considers it the true 3rd movie.
I'm glad Cameron endorsered it and liked it, but that still doesn't make think it's any good.

Genisys was... I watched it and thought it was kind of okay but nothing special... but I don't think I ever want to watch it again. It was just sort of hollow and soulless, like a video game or something.

A few good ideas, but I didn't like that everyone (except for Arnie) had been recast by actors that didn't look a thing like the originals. Too much of a mash-up of the first two movies, and not enough forward momentum.

I actually didn't think Genisys was all that bad. Not particularly great either but better than the third and fourth films in my opinion. I think the problem the franchise continues to run into is that it always repeats itself. Rise of the Machines felt lazy and was basically a retread of Judgment Day and while Genisys was more straight forward about retreading on the first two films it didn't help matters. The only film that took a chance at being different was Salvation but that wasn't the greatest either (although I don't hate it like most).

That clip is actually a cut scene from hthe movie. It's on the blue ray. The old game that came out on he PAC was half decent...for the time. They have still
never done a truly great Terminator game, and the franchise should make it a no brainer.

It's like Groundhog Day. Each side tries over and over to stop the other. If at first you don't succeed, try and try again. There is no end. They go round and round and round.
The basic premise has no end. All they can do is come up with clever variations of the same story. How many different ways can The Rolling Stones play "Satisfaction" to keep it fresh.
Ironically, one of the Harlan Ellison Outer Limits episodes it's based on, "Soldier", ends with the two soldiers fighting through eternity in some kind of limbo.

http://collider.com/terminator-5-update/

A Major ‘Terminator’ Franchise Announcement Is Coming in 2017, Says Skydance’s David Ellison

t’s been a hit-and-miss situation for the Terminator franchise since the double-barreled blast of The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgement Day. The third installment in the franchise relied too much on plotting and backstory to keep audience’s attention, whereas the story seemed to remain grounded in the present throughout the first two films, even in the flashbacks. This was an issue that similarly corrupted Terminator: Salvation and Terminator: Genisys but to a far lesser extent than the third movie. The bigger issue for these Terminator sequels, which remain entertaining for the most part, is that the violence has gone from sudden, brutal acts of murder, anchored to mortal stakes, to being just loud noise that seemingly follows the protagonists throughout their journey. There’s a lack of consequence to all of it.

This would seemingly be one of the things to consider when gearing up for the next Terminator film, although there was talk after the less-than-stellar returns on Genisys that the franchise was overdue for a break. Well, fresh off reports that James Cameron may be returning to the franchise, it’s looking like that break will not take all that long.

During a recent conversation with our very own Steven Weintraub, Skydance honcho David Ellison said that there will be a major announcement about the Terminator franchise coming in 2017. He essentially left the announcement at that but you can read his quotes from the interview right below.

Here’s what Ellison said during his interview with Steve:

“I will say we have resolved the future of the franchise and believe me its an incredibly bright future. I think where it’s going will be the continuation of what the fans really wanted since T2.”

“We have something this year that we will be announcing for the franchise. It’s something we’re incredibly excited about and we think is the direction it needs to head.”

Well, if they do something with it, it will be without Paramount's support. Paramount has officially dropped the franchise and the contract options for Arnold and Emilia Clarke.

I read it would have to be independently produced and financed.

Ok David, now go hang out with Ridley Scott. Will Arnold be back as a T-800 named Grandpops?

True. Even T2: Judgment Day was a retread, structurally, of the first film.

Cameron in talks with David Ellison to produce a new 3 arc trilogy, but it won't happen until he works out the rights issues. They revert back to him in 2019. Plus he's busy with 3 Avatar movies.

What's with Cameron and trilogies? Did he watch LOTR and think "I want to make one of those"?

I don't count on that happening. For one thing the films never seem to do well enough to get to the next part of their planned trilogy (at least that's been the case with the last two attempts) and Cameron is a great filmmaker but he moves along with projects at a snails pace. With his four sequels to Avatar in development I have a hard time believing he's going to have time for both.

As long as you use a wet wipe on it, I'll take a copy of The Abyss. Thanks.

Uh, dude? Where have you been for the last few decades. Everything in Hollywood has to be a trilogy. Until it is a trilogy, then we need the reunion movie for part four.

"Trilogy" now is code for "let's make a really shitty movie that does nothing but promise better movies in the sequels."

I'll believe this when it actually happens. Like I said in the thread for the potential 3D release of Aliens Cameron seems to talk big but takes forever to get the ball rolling on projects. Unless he's not as involved as it's sounding. Doesn't he still have to wait a couple more years or so before the rights revert back to him? If he actually gets around to it by then it's going to be hard to do as Arnold isn't getting any younger. I suppose he might not have a heavy action role if he's playing the humans the Terminators are based on but still.
