Ghostbusters (2016) - The Trailer

Re: Ghostbusters (2016) - The Trailer
She is the only character who I would say fits the type of ghostbuster which are modeled after Garbage men. 6' tall not too skinny or too fat for the role and looks believable for the part. The other three actresses are not tall enough, too skinny or too fat. Since its going to be the same movie beat for beat as the original, its bull shit fantasy that these women would save New York.
ok, that makes zero sense. The originals weren't garbagemen - they were (and are) professors/scientists (except Winston and now Jones). Wiig and McKinnon are average female height. McCarthy below average, Jones above average.
Again, their physical stature has nothing to do with fighting ghosts. it's all science and proton packs and ghost traps.
Edit: - Ah, I see you've already argued your weird point earlier in this thread. So I'll just reference you back to everyone that disagreed with you then.

They are modeled after garbage men that has been said many times by Dan Akyroyd.

Yeah that is a bullshit excuse. The gender isn't an issue for me either its who they chose to be in the film.

"AYKROYD: They were like vacuum cleaner or elevator repairmen, or firemen. The idea was to have them blend into the urban landscape. Calling a Ghostbuster was just like getting rats removed."
he in no way has said he modeled them physically after garbagemen. You're grasping for straws.
(by the way, women can be garbage collectors AND firefighters! Who knew?!)

. So, only tall, average weight men can save New York City? This is TRULY the position you are going with?

Who wants to place bets that Leslie Jones' character will say one or more of the following:
"Oh, HELL, naw!"
"Now THAT'S what I'm talking about!"
"That IS nasty!"
"Daayaaamn!"

"You don't like Paul Blart: Mall Cop? Well, you're a cocksucker!" Nowhere on this board for the many years I've been on it have people been this uptight over a movie pro or con like this one.

I saw the trailer (the second one, I assume) for the first time before The Angry Birds Movie over the weekend. The only complimentary thing I can say about it is that some of the effects looked nice. It got no reaction from the audience whatsoever, whereas The Lego Batman Movie teaser went over quite well.

That's her style of "comedy". Everything she is in, she "acts" the exact same way. Just like how McCarthy is always joking about her size and how she is out of shape, and how she doesn't fit into situations because of how she looks. Same thing in every performance. I'm sure some troll will be along before too long to tell me that I'm a racist or a sexist because I don't find their tired old schtick funny.
But seriously, I agree with you about Jones. I've said in this thread that Jones needs to grow past this one "Angry Black Woman" persona in her roles to have staying power. But then again, McCarthy has, according to you and others here, done the same "fat girl" persona...Yet...she been very successful much to the dismay of folks here. So perhaps these successful women know more about their careers and what they need than you and I?

Stooping to personal attacks is more akin to "losing their shit" that criticizing the movie in question.

Makes you wonder if there is more going on than just how the trailers look, doesn't it?

Personally and I know there are going to be some that don't agree but I think that Feig has incited a lot of the hate. Yeah there were people who were hating on the film to begin with but I almost think by him firing back (and not just once but multiple times) that it kind of just turned into a back and forth mess and an us versus them mentality on both sides. I don't think either group is in the right or wrong but I don't think that Feig handled himself in the most professional manner.

After people hate the new Star Trek trailer they shouldn't have any hate left for Ghostbusters.

-Fans have been hoping for a GB3 for almost 20 years. It doesn't happen.
-Sony refused to finance Ghostbusters 3 claiming that it was too expensive to finance, even kicking Akroyd out of his offices on the Sony lot.
-Ghostbusters 3 stays in development hell for many years.
-An unofficial prototype for a Ghostbusters videogame comes out. The prototype is met with a lot of excitement online which causes Sony to say "Holy Crap there is still life left in this franchise!" They block the original company from getting the rights and instead license the rights out.
-Ghostbusters:the videogame comes out in 2009 to good reviews and is well received. It features the voice work of the entire original cast and people praise the story. Dan Akroyd says it was what he wanted the third movie to be. This gets fans excited again hoping for an actual third movie after strong sales of the game.
-Sony realizing they have a hot property again, actively try and get a third movie going.
-The movie still lingers in development hell, frustrating fans even more.
-Harold Ramis dies and with that the dream of GB3 dies with him for most fans, upset over what might have been.
-The Sony leak happens. Fans see that they were basically denied GB3 because Amy Pascal strong-armed Retimen and Akroyd out of it in order to make a movie that would appeal to women. The emails also show Amy Pascals complete disdain for Reitman and Akroyd and lots of the original cast. The leak also proves that she just wanted a movie that would appeal to women and was going to just slap whatever license she could on it.
-Paul Feig is announced as director and his entire first tweet talked about making Ghostbusters with funny women making this appear to be nothing more than a gimmick.
-After rumors of actresses like Lizzy Caplan, Jennifer Lawrence, Amy Schumer and Emma Stone Feig chooses to cast McCarthy, Wiig, McKinnon and Jones. Feig says he cast they because they were the funniest women he knows.
-Fans see promos and start to not like what they see. They attack Feig. Feig in turn attacks them right back.
-Rumors of set problems start to happen and are mentioned by several anonymous sources most of whom are saying the movie is an unfunny disaster and the actresses are not happy with it.
-The trailer drops to almost universal hatred. No one says that the trailer is any good and it becomes the most hated trailer in YouTube history.
And that is where most of the hatred comes from. Not "sexism". It comes from a group of fans who had something that they wanted to see, fans who kept the torch alive, and fans who felt cheated because they were basically being given a giant middle finger by Sony and they responded in kind.

I know that's how I feel. When rumors of Ben Stiller and Seth Rogan as young Ghostbusters were floated around I felt just as disapointed as when I heard they were green-lighting LadyGhostbusters.

I agree that he didn't help matters any. He could have just kept his mouth shut against the trolls and ignored them but he did come across like an ass the times he lashed out. And I'm sure there is more to this than people expect, but it's not sexism and racism like some people want you to believe. Lets look at all the issues.

Naw. You might be sexist or racist for other reasons but not in this particular post.

I don't remember saying anything about McCarthy's success in her career. It doesn't surprise me that she would stick with what works for her, it would only make sense. The problem I have with that is that every performance of her tends to be the same, with the same jokes. Which was my point. After the first 10 or so times one sees a joke, it loses its luster, and these trailers have been full of jokes that we have seen at least 10 times before.

It's a shame McCarthy seems to do the same schtick in all her movies. I remember her likable character on Gilmore Girls, which is very grounded and realistic. I'm not saying she needs to go back to that, she currently is a star that can open movies, which is very hard to come by these days.
I will say the 3D effects of the ghosts looked pretty good when I saw the trailer before Captain America.

Not surprisingly...you missed the "But seriously" in the next paragraph letting you know I was kidding.

Again, her success and popularity disagrees with you...
