It is. It's not really funny but it's a better made trailer.

Re: Ghostbusters (2016) - The Trailer

I like the new trailer better, but that may mostly be from lowered expectations. Favorite bit was probably the Patty "I'm just just going to leave" moment but that was kind of ruined by the selfie-stick appearance, which seemed like an already dated joke straight out of a lame "parody" movie.

I also liked the "She may have misspoke"/"sad lonely women" part but mostly because I remember Feig explained that joke in his pitch to Sony (which was leaked in the emails) and it has the potential to be a good running gag.

That was a much better trailer, it had some moments that were pretty amusing. I might check this out on home video after all.

You're actually coming close to a point there. Now that she's in a movie that people who would otherwise avoid her movies like the plague wanted to see there is a backlash. It's fine when she's in movies that genre fans don't give a shit about, but when someone casts her in a movie that genre fans would otherwise like to watch a backlash should be expected.

I would only watch a movie with Melissa McCarthy in it if everything and everyone else in it looked really good. This isn't that movie. Not even close.

You don't even need to venture outside this forum or even this thread to see a substantial amount of McCarthy hatred.
Yes! Because she's AWFUL!!!! Truly annoying and UNfunny.

For me, personally, there have been plenty of male comedic actors who I hated over the last 3 decades (David Spade, Andrew Dice Clay, Chris Farley, etc). She's just one of many comedic actors that I strongly dislike.

I don't think it is just that. All those movies came out around the same time--the early 70s, which suggests they were chosen for a reason more significant than an in-joke. Also notice how the theatres have the old style marquees.

As far as the International trailer...

...it still looks bad. Really bad. Epic bad. The International trailer makes it look like a SNL all-female parody of Ghostbusters. A bad parody.

The only thing that made it any better was the NON inclusion of Jones' crowd surf, "black or woman thing," fall and rant. That's one of the most pathetic gags I've seen in decades.

I'm really digging the remix version of the theme song. While the original will always be the best, I always like different takes on songs and that one has really stuck in my head.

Genre fans have never been the main audience for Ghostbusters.

The movie crossed over for sure, but genre fans have remained the most vocal supporters (and purchasers) of the movie over the last 25 years or so...

Huh? Genre fans have kept the franchise alive when there hasn't been much movement of any kind on the property in years. It's a classic film either way but fans have elevated the importance it holds to a lot of people.

Yes, and the number of fans necessary to keep a moribund series generating money is far less than it takes to make a new film a financial success. Catering to fanboys is not a viable option -- just ask Joss Whedon how that worked with Serenity. Or compare the box office take for the TNG Trek movies and JJTrek. Or the sales figures for Marvel comics and Marvel movies.

Hollywood doesn't need genre fans.

Re: Ghostbusters (2016) - The Trailer

Hollywood doesn't need genre fans necessarily but it doesn't hurt to have them on your side either. Disney is a prime example of knowing how to appease both fanboys and the general public with the Marvel films and with Star Wars. It can certainly be easy to just sweep the fans who have been supportive off to the side but that's kind of short sighted. The reality is this film and others like it will be the flavor of the month with likely not as much staying power. So while they'll make money in the short term it doesn't pay off to piss off fans completely in my opinion.

What you've said is exactly it for me. I felt the same way about Cars. I love Pixar movies, but when it turned out to be a Larry the Cable Guy movie I was pretty disapointed. He even says, "Get 'er done!" at one point. Absolute low point for Pixar. Then came Cars 2...BARF!

Yeah I stil never saw Cars 2, or The Good Dinosaur. Monsters University was also a bottom of the barrel effort.

I actually liked Cars, it was a love letter to the road trip and exploring the backroads, and it also just seemed completely different than everything else Pixar (which is a good thing in my book.) But yeah, Cars 2 and Monsters U were just bad.

Excellent point.

I agree, but on the flipside the only reason this movie exists is because of said fans keeping the franchise alive for the past 30 years.

It was an okay remake of Doc Hollywood.

Just watched the international trailer - it IS better, and you know why? not ONE, SINGLE shot of Jones yelling/screaming, which we've seen in every trailer so far.

you guys can say what you want about McCarthy, i don't mind her at all. But how anyone finds Jones' schtick funny is completely incomprehensible to me.

Yeah Jones has come across as the stereotypical angry black lady in the other trailers so far. Her along with McCarthy are the biggest things making me not wanting to see this.

That's her style of "comedy". Everything she is in, she "acts" the exact same way. Just like how McCarthy is always joking about her size and how she is out of shape, and how she doesn't fit into situations because of how she looks. Same thing in every performance. I'm sure some troll will be along before too long to tell me that I'm a racist or a sexist because I don't find their tired old schtick funny.

Agreed. Followed very closely by Wiig, who I never found funny in the least.

McKinnon, on the other hand, I find to be hilarious.

Agree - i'd rank them in the following manner

1 - McKinnon (i really like her)
.
.
.
2 - Wiig (she really got annoying for me on SNL (gilly, target lady, etc), then was just OK in movies)
.
3 - McCarthy (she doesn't annoy me as much as she seems to annoy others... but that honestly may be because my experience with her is solely when she appears on talk shows or TV shows, also maybe some clips on youtube or movie previews - i have never fully watched a single one of her movies (yes, even Bridesmaids... I have been meaning to for a while, just never got around to it))

Not sure what height has to do with shooting ghosts with lasers? It's not like they're engaging them in hand-to-hand combat.

Re: Ghostbusters (2016) - The Trailer

She is the only character who I would say fits the type of ghostbuster which are modeled after Garbage men. 6' tall not too skinny or too fat for the role and looks believable for the part. The other three actresses are not tall enough, too skinny or too fat. Since its going to be the same movie beat for beat as the original, its bull shit fantasy that these women would save New York.
