Re: Ghostbusters (2016) - The Trailer

I have no problem saying I hate this movie for being a gender bender, but the youtube channel Midnight's Edge lays out every problem with the new movie. It doesnt look funny or scary, and is the wrong approach to the material.

9 minutes of drivel. The movie is not worth spending that much time discussing.

However you've admitted your job schedule has ruined your social life, so maybe McCarthy isn't totally wrong about you specifically, as you were clearly who she had in mind when she said those things.

As for that video, that's all beside the point. The movie could be better than the original, better than all of your favorite movies combined, and you'd still hate it because you have a problem with women.

Maybe Dan Akroyd actually likes it?

Doesn't he own part of the franchise? It's in his best financial interest that the movie does well.

Here's Dan Ackroyd's cameo in a UK TV spot. Spoilers if you care.

That spot has (relatively) better footage than what they put in the theatrical trailers.

Maybe between this thread, the eventual review thread, and the regressive left thread. We might have the thread of the year for 2016.

Could care less, but count me surprised Andy Garcia is in it.

Re: Ghostbusters (2016) - The Trailer

Tony Zhou (the "Every Frame a Painting" guy) did a pretty great write-up about why he perceives that the UK trailer was so much better than the US one. It's worth a click. Here's just one section of it.
https://medium.com/@tonyszhou/the-tr...221#.towa6xll9
Spoiler for size
Spoiler:
Both of these trailers build up to the exact same two shots and the exact same punchline. The only difference is how long each shot is held for. Consider the first shot, side by side.

Right away, you can see that the American version fades in from black. This adds 7 frames at the beginning of the shot, and IMO messes up the timing.
Meanwhile, the UK version not only gets to the point more quickly, it’s also 4 frames shorter at the end, which speeds us along to the group reaction shot.

Here’s where the joke really dies in the American trailer. The difference between these two shots is 19 frames. That’s an eternity in joke timing.
The American cut has 8 extra frames at the beginning of the shot. I’m not a fan of this decision, but it’s not terrible. The really terrible decision was the 11 extra frames at the end of the shot.

I actually like the international trailer. It establishes a scary setting, then follows up it with a nice laugh. Nice mix of adventure, action, light horror, and comedy going on within it. Leslie Jones scenes are much better here than the previous ones.

Even though this film started out with a lot of negative criticisms by fans, I bet it's gonna be a huge hit. All the un-likes the youtube trailer got only created more public awareness for the movie, and casual movie goers who were probably ambivalent about it will now want to see it just to see what all the hubub was about.

Yes, the international trailer is an improvement. I guess it shows what the studio thinks Americans go for.

On a different note, I watched Trainwreck last night, and it made me think how good Bill Hader could have been as a new Ghostbuster.

That television clip should have been the theatrical trailer .. short, to the point, and the famous line (and spoken by Ackroyd, no less). I liked that one. Less is certainly more.

Did anyone else get caught up in the great Ecto Cooler freakout of 2016?

I ordered 6 cases on Amazon like any other level-headed person would have.

I ordered 3 cases. Should be enough to last me a long time...I still have cans of Moxie from like 3 months ago.

Wouldn't surprise me. That obviously scripted "review" of the movie screams "Please go see the movie".

Let's be perfectly honest with ourselves here. If Aykroyd was critical of the movie the same people writing off his endorsement would be treating his critique as the word of God.

I'm sure Dan Aykroyd liked it as much as James Cameron liked Terminator Genisys.
