Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

Looks the same for me in Chrome, Firefox and Edge -- IE everything on the forum looks like a shitstorm, what's it looking like for you?

Edit: Though it does scale if the window is small and scrunches up the numbers.

All messed up for me in Chrome. The white space on the side is cramming everything together, so instead of it showing the #s horizontally, they are all vertical in each cell.

What resolution are you using? I'll chop some columns or something.

Dragon Ball Z Super Broly $5m+ on it's first day and estimate $11m+ during its six day run. Impressive.

https://deadline.com/2019/01/dragon-...ce-1202536491/

Edit: $7.06m opening day, not $5m as first estimated.

The Mule is approaching $100 million. That is insane for a film starring an 88-year old man. Impressive.

Very impressive. Benefited from being the "adult" release for the holidays ("Let's go see a movie." while visiting the folks. Who obviously have no interest in Aquaman or Bumblebee or Spider-man). Held up well.

I think that's exactly right. Warner programmed it brilliantly.

Really interesting how much better Bohemian Rhapsody has done worldwide compared to A Star is Born since they did about the same domestically. I mean, it makes some sense with Queen being a huge band worldwide, but still interesting.

I know hardly anyone in this forum saw it, but Escape Room is a pretty solid hit for Sony. I think they will greenlight the sequel that it leaves things open for.

Movie about a Well-known, popular band vs. a starring role for a known singer. The bigger surprise for me is how huge it was in S. Korea ($75m gross) and Japan ($81m gross). Well actually, I guess nothing really surprises me with those two anymore. Stadium pop rock is huge there.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

i'm really surprised The Mule will probably hit $100m domestic. that was so little hyped or marketed. kinda amazing actually. i know it's Eastwood and probably last acting role, but not many of his hit $100...

Glass held up much better than expected (I expected a 60%+ drop based on general feedback). The Upside is crushing it. Spider-verse and Aquaman continue to leg out.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

At this point, it looks like "Mary Poppins Returns" will top off around 170-175M in the U.S. I wonder if Disney is disappointed. Sure, it's not a great movie. It's good and has the nostalgia going for it. But I expected somewhere in the 250-300M range. And I honestly felt it was 10 x better than the live action "Beauty and the Beast". Which cleaned up at the box-office.

Apparently Disney was unfazed by it's middling performance: https://www.google.com/amp/s/news.av...1831715431/amp

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

It doesn't matter if it was better. The nostalgia factor is way stronger with BatB than with Mary Poppins. People who saw Beauty and the Beast in theaters as kids and remember it fondly lined up to take their own kids to the new one. People who saw Merry Poppins in theaters as kids are senior citizens.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

There were tons of kids in the theater when I saw "MPR". Obviously not the draw that "BatB" was. But they were there. And all of my friends with kids have "MP" in their DVD library and said their kids love it too.

And RichC2, yeah, I saw a similar article. Bet this idea peters out fast.
