re: Leatherface (2017) -- Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel

"Alexandra Daddario, who was evidently in True Detective, because in the weeks following, no matter where I went on the Internet, I heard about nothing else, May or may not return." Um, how would she return in a prequel since her story took place 40 years later? I suppose they could incvr her in a flashback somehow, but Leatherface is not known for being chatty.

re: Leatherface (2017) -- Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel

I still have not seen the last Chainsaw film(though I actually had a random strange nightmare about the film). But one thing that needs to be done is bring back the complete title:The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Just naming it Texas Chainsaw sounds stupid and makes no sense. That's a short hand title used when talking about the film, "Hey, did you see Texas Chainsaw?", but shouldn't be the actual full title.

re: Leatherface (2017) -- Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel

I actually didn't mind Texas Chainsaw 3D really. It wasn't perfect but it was entertaining enough and had some cool sequences I thought. The big part that brings it down is the filmmakers saying that it was a direct sequel to the original since the timeline didn't add up. It did help the film that Alexandra Daddario is extremely good looking though.

re: Leatherface (2017) -- Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre prequel is about to shed some serious gore.

A few weeks back we exclusively reported that Millennium Films had been talking with two sets of directors to get behind the camera for Leatherface, the prequel that would go back before Tobe Hooper’s 1974 The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and tell of Leatherface’s teenage years.

We can exclusively confirm this Halloween day that Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, the duo behind the slasher masterpiece Inside (À l’intérieur), as well as Livide and the forthcoming Among the Living, will be helming Leatherface for Millienum and Lionsgate.

As I revealed in the aforementioned piece, the duo were also courted for New Line Cinema’s A Nightmare On Elm Street remake back in 2009. Now, it looks as if the French filmmakers will bring their splatter-soaked cinema talents to the States for another slasher franchise, the new Chainsaw prequel.

The biggest issue with Texas Chainsaw 3D was that it had an identity crisis – it didn’t know if it wanted to be fun or violent. I expect an onscreen slaughter with Leatherface. I expect a return to the grit and grime of the original. I expect it all from Maury Bustillo…

For those who have not seen Inside, go check it out and see why you should be beyond excited.

Seth M. Sherwood wrote the screenplay.

Millennium Films, who was behind the 2013 Texas Chainsaw 3D, is once again producing with Christa Campbell, Lati Grobman and Carl Mazzacone, for Lionsgate.

Do you know how many of the films in this franchise you need to watch? Exactly one. The original. That's it. There really isn't any need to go beyond that. On that subject, was it ever confirmed if the mono on the Blu was downmix?

The only one for me thats truly a chore to sit through is The Next Generation. I think the only reason I've seen it more than once is for the sheer amusement of watching a movie that Matthew McConaughey and Renee Zellweger probably wish they could erase from existence.

re: Leatherface (2017) -- Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel

So, now we are going to have two prequels in the series? We get the original movie with a direct sequel followed by a loosely tied in third one. After that we get a loony bin version for the Next Generation. Then another take on the original is made followed by its prequel. Then we get an actual direct sequel to the original that ignores its own direct sequel that was made by the original director. Let's rewind it all back and tell the beginning story all over again. If I have to hear the word "gritty" or any other iteration of it again.

Stephen Dorff has been announced as the lead

Exclusive: Stephen Dorff is taking the lead role of Hartman in the Millenniums Films’ Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel Leatherface. The film centers around a violent teen who one day will become Leatherface. He escapes from a mental hospital with three other inmates, kidnaps a young nurse and takes her on a road trip from hell. Along the way, they are pursued by an equally deranged lawman out for revenge.

I'll probably see it at some point but I'm not very interested in it. It really just feels like the people in charge of this franchise don't know what to do with it seeing as we've had the remake, the prequel to the remake, a sequel to the original film, and now a prequel to the original film.

The last movie left such a bad taste in my mouth. I'll wait until this hits DVD/BD to rent it. No intention on seeing it in theaters.

Yuck. I actually liked the Bay produced ones but the new ones are ass.

Hell, even Next Generation is a step up to this new crop. Barely.

Have you watched Next Generation recently? I take a small amount of comfort in the almost certain likelihood that no sequel to this series will ever be as terrible as that film.

Agreed. I hated everything about it. The acting, the story, just everything. Cannot believe the originals came back for that.

re: Leatherface (2017) -- Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel

Leatherface is a mentally disabled, deformed, obese, inbred, home schooled shut in. If he's not that in the prequel, he's not really Leatherface. Leatherface as a angry teen just isn't going to work. I assume it'll be fucked up worse than Michael Myers as a kid in the remakes.

That's how the TCM franchise has always been. There has never been any kind of continuity or cohesion between the films.

Even as far back as TCM2, which was the first sequel, there was a drastic shift in tone. Then TCM3, aside from Leatherface and a chainsaw, had no connections to the previous two films. The next sequel, TNG, ignored the 2 and 3 and was a direct sequel to the original and played like a comedy.

The we got a remake and a prequel to the remake.

And finally, they've dipped back to the original and made a third direct sequel, and now a prequel.

This shit's worse than the X-Men franchise.

re: Leatherface (2017) -- Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel

TCM and TCM 2 are the best. The rest are just fodder with good moments sprinkled in. Now, the remake wasn't too bad but they really shot themselves in the foot with the stupid story and characters in the last movie. It could have worked if they didn't go for the boobs but rather a slightly older actress while keeping a darker tone and keeping the stupid lines out of the movie. "Do your thing, cuz!"

re: Leatherface (2017) -- Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel

I dunno I sort of like the first three at least. Leatherface (not this new film) is a fun slasher at least even if it really doesn't have much to do with the original. The remake actually wasn't bad either in my opinion. The Next Generation is a piece of shit and I don't think I ever saw The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. Honestly I didn't completely hate Texas Chainsaw 3D like a lot of people do. The biggest issue with it to me is that it tries to tie itself to the original and doesn't do a very good job. Aside from that it's s watchable enough dumb horror film.
