Bingo.

Makes one wonder if maybe we dodged a bullet by never getting a Man of Steel 2.

I think the first Aquaman's success was kind of a fluke.

I don't think so. Zack Snyder would have delivered a Zack Snyder movie. So only the people who don't like his output would have hated it.

Re: Future DC Studios projects discussion thread - News, rumors, etc.

I mean given that the first Aquaman was more or less a video game, is it surprising that a generically-titled sequel that doesn't have the novelty factor is very poorly received? I'm curious who the villains in this are, especially since Shazam 2 is using... kind of nobodies, despite setting up multiple popular villains in the first one? Deep Six? Fisherman?

Alternatively I wonder if they're diving into (pun intended) some of the darker stories, like when Aquaman loses his hand and his infant son is killed, so it's too offputting for audiences?

I'm always leery about reported "Test screening leaks" 9 times out of 10 they are complete bullshit. I don't know how many of you have actually attended a test screening, but you have to sign an NDA otherwise you could be sued. I believe even people who see test screenings on the studio lots have to sign NDAs.

Hell, I saw a test screening for a movie 2 years ago that still hasn't been released yet.

Perhaps, but... As someone who likes his style, I personally hated Sucker Punch, and I believe the same holds true for most of his fans. So it's not as if he's above a stinker in the eyes of even those who enjoy his output. A MoS2 might have been universally panned.

I do find it interesting that he co-wrote both Wonder Woman and Aquaman, yet he was not really involved in their respective sequels. But then he also co-wrote Sucker Punch, so never mind.

It's possible, but if they think it is good enough to make money, they'll release it. Only the shit that is so bad that it wont make them more money in release than the write off would get cancelled.

But can you at least give general feelings (for instance saying you liked or disliked the film in question)? There’s nothing plot specific or any spoilers out. Just saying that people walked out and didn’t enjoy it.

No you cannot say a damn thing. You have to sign documents with your email, cell and social media. Test screenings are usually movies in the middle of post production. That’s why you can’t say anything. Early press screenings are completed movies for pundits, YouTubers and critics. And that’s why they allow early reactions.

Of course. But I don't for 1 second believe they'll shelve Aquaman 2 no matter how bad it is. I could be be wrong, but I think i'm on track.

Isn't it too late for them to shelve it? I mean as a tax write-off. They can certainly shelve it if they please, but they won't be able to recoup even a fraction of their investment via tax write-off, as they did with Batgirl and Scoob 2, since that window has closed.

I believe WB will do whichever thing they can manipulate easiest and furthest: Remember how Harry Potter 5 grossed just shy of a billion dollars, but "lost" money?

Nope. Nada. You can't even say you saw the movie. Of course, it's not like they are checking who signed the NDA. Sure, I could be on the guest list.. but maybe Ron Mexico signed the NDA and they never bother to match it to the person. How would that hold up?

Again, it is about whether they think they can make money with the film. Even if this is bad, they believe it will make money.

DC's Dead Boy Detectives is moving from HBO Max to Netflix. Apparently doesn't fit with the new DC direction on HBO Max.

Never heard of this DC IP.

I will wait for a DVD Talk DC Historian to fill me in.

It's a Vertigo book (related to Sandman) so I guess the move makes sense.

Yeah, specifically, it's a spin-off of a couple of minor characters from the Sandman story arc "Season of Mists," that will, most likely, be covered in the second season of the Netflix Sandman series. They made a second appearance as protagonists of a Vertigo Comics crossover called "The Children's Crusade" that ran through various annuals in 1993-1994 (Swamp Thing, Animal Man, Doom Patrol, Black Orchid, and Arcana: Books of Magic).

The eventually started getting their own miniseries around the time Harry Potter became a pop cultural phenomenon.
