Same. It was shockingly bad. Like who in the fuck thought that shit was a good idea?

Re: Future DC Studios projects discussion thread - News, rumors, etc.

I didn't hate WW84, but it has some baffling decisions and missed opportunities. Never addressing that Steve Trevor possessed Diana's neighbor, having all the wishes be selfish, not bothering to explore the possibility of altruistic wishes being warped toward negative results, name dropping Dolos with barely an explanation and no appearance by him (because apparently they didn't want her to face another god), and the fact that the whole story contradicts her whole "walked away from mankind 100 years ago" speech from BVS.

Speaking of BVS, when I heard Wonder Woman was going after an important artifact, I assumed she was to be searching for a Mother Box. Instead she was hunting for an old WWI group photo. Oh and why not make her a supporting character, if not co-lead, in Shazam! Fury of the Gods?

I think it was a very smart move. And they're correct, these are the characters they should be building off of. WW should be next, followed by Batman. (and a Superman sequel)

Re: Future DC Studios projects discussion thread - News, rumors, etc.

I mean did anyone expect him to pick Firestorm, Ambush Bug and Star Spangled Kid as the three pillars? That's why it's such a nothing statement. Agreed that he chose the projects that were either in the works or immediately planned. But whatever, just leave Gunn some room to do some movies without kneejerk reactions (I really hope Superman is good, I'm excited).

Also I'm irrationally excited for Supergirl, cosmic goofiness on the level of Guardians of the Galaxy, and, you know, the remote possibility of the LoSH down the line.

Re: Future DC Studios projects discussion thread - News, rumors, etc.

Wonder Woman 1984 was a huge missed opportunity, especially coming off the high of the 1st movie. Granted it had some hiccups with it's release (I won't get into that) But, the biggest mistake IMO was giving Patty Jenkins and Geoff Johns more creative control with it. She and Gal become BFFs, but anyone notice how she hasn't worked in 7 years? WW84 began and wrapped filming in 2018 and that was her last job.

I'm not saying Jenkins is done, but it hurt her career.

Yeah that was all WB's fault for giving Jenkins that contract. She did a fine job on the first film but was in no way owed anything beyond that. One of the better decisions Lucasfilm made was canceling her movie. (though it never should have been announced to begin with)

WW84 was Batman & Robin level bad. Even worse in ways, because WW was so good.

I feel like people have rose colored glasses for the first WW woman. It was good, surprisingly good at the time, but it kinda fell apart in the last act for seemingly no reason.

WW 1984 started off on the wrong foot with the combination of "gotta fit this into continuity where she stayed hidden for reasons" (which I gotta be honest, was in the back of my head the entire movie) and COVID, but man still really fumbled the ball when it came to the plot, I still have no idea who greenlit that in this day and age.

The reason was claimed to be meddling WB execs. Apparently the original third act revolved around Diana discovering that Ares was innocent of causing the Great War. Humans were the real culprits, with no supernatural intervention. This lead Diana to retreat from mankind, despite being unable to ever return to Themyscira, in keeping with what she told Bruce at the end of BVS. Apparently the suits at WB wanted a big flashy god battle at the end, but refused to push back the release date to accommodate the last minute change. However, I do recall Patty Jenkins saying that was only partially true, in that originally they had a big battle planned and some shots were filmed (like the Diana surrounded by flames shot Jenkins once revealed), only for the WB suits to nix it early (for budget concerns maybe?), the Ares is innocent ending being shot instead, and then the execs demanding a new Diana versus Ares fight as the grand finale.

If true, they definitely had the wrong execs, meddling in everything they shouldn't have and then NOT meddling when it comes time to approve the body swap script in WW1986. Like just say it was magic and not a real person he swapped with and a lot of the problems with that particular plot go away (it's not like the movie wasn't already leaning into the cheese), but nope.

Yeah, given Diana's wish, there was no need for a body swap whatsoever. If a Monkey's Paw consequence was needed, just say he was plucked from WWI and that led to whatever positive exploits he achieved be negated due to his absence.

As for the WB execs themselves, it was the Wild West during the the DCEU days. That's why so many conflicting projects were constantly greenlit/cancelled, and why Dwayne Johnson felt emboldened enough to attempt his failed "hierarchy of power" coup.

I always thought Ares was the weakest link in Wonder Woman. He was a poorly developed and didn't really seem to have a lot of purpose in the film other than to be a "big gun" antagonist for Wonder Woman to face.

Might explain why, for me, Wonder Woman isn't a bad movie, but I just have no desire to watch it again.

As much as I enjoyed the first movie, having Ares NOT be responsible for WWI would have been a far better ending.

I know I'm in the minority in this, but I do hope the woman eventually chosen to play WW in The DCU is a solid actor(no offense Ga Gadot) and...has a legit accent. For years I imagined her with one, and when Gal Gadot showed up I was very happy. I mean, it just made sense to me that she would have one. I think some recent animated WW appearances have voice actors with accents. But I could be wrong.

I’ve always thought that Wonder Woman is a tad overrated myself. It came out amongst a series of mediocre to poor DC movies and it was the standout for being better. I don’t think it’s a bad movie but not great either. I definitely agree that it starts pretty good but by the time the third act comes it falls apart a bit.

I think we all want a decent actress. As for the accent, like you want a Greek accent? And at that point why is she speaking English...

I'm all for it though it probably narrows down the list of potential actresses (and even someone like Elizabeth Olsen couldn't really pull it off with Wanda)

I really loved Wonder Woman a lot until Black Panther did most of it way better

I only had one beef with Ares and that was his aesthetic. He looked absolutely ridiculous with that ridiculous 70s porn 'stache sticking out of his war helmet.

I liked Black Panther but found it ridiculously overrated. Neither film was amazing, but I'd give the edge to Wonder Woman, despite both having anticlimactic final battles.

I guess it made me realize I wanted Themiscyra to be... weirder? Or at least more fleshed out. Black Panther has all these little cultural touches that WW lacks, whereas in the comics, the Amazons have purple healing rays, ride kangaroos, etc. Yeah yeah, I know, marketability to a mainstream audience

See I felt both films dropped the ball in that regard. I wanted more Wakanda and more Themyscira. But Wakanda Forever frustrated me even more because they kept showing me only that one damn street. I love the production artwork I saw for Black Panther, but both movies came across like they lacked the budget to make any of that a reality. As for WW, you are right in that they didn't show anything. I really would have loved to see Themyscira through Steve Trevor's eyes, before we get on to the main quest.

New ‘Wonder Woman’ Movie Sets ‘Supergirl’ Writer Ana Nogueira to Pen Script

DC Studios has hired “Supergirl” screenwriter Ana Nogueira to write its reboot of “Wonder Woman,” Variety has confirmed. Nogueira is also writing a live-action “Teen Titans” for the studio.

Wonder Woman has become a major priority for the studio; Variety reported on July 16 that DC was fast-tracking the feature project, and DC Studios co-chief James Gunn told Entertainment Weekly in June that a “Wonder Woman” movie “is being written right now.”
