Planes ? Seriously ?

I keep seeing these ads for the new Planes movie. Aside from it being an idiotic idea for a movie (we have the stupid Cars movies to blame for this), why is the Gee Bee plane in the movie Mexican ?

To sell toys. That is why. That is the only reason. The end.

Nice way to incorporate two question marks into your thread title.

Because Mexicans have money to spend on movies. The plane's name is also called "El Chupacabra," because we like our folklore, too.

Disney sure knows how to hit our wallets.

Also, not a Pixar movie. Disney does not take the creative risks that makes Pixar great. And so I have very little enthusiasm for Planes.

This. My son already has 6 of the planes before the movie even came out.

He's 4 and he saw the movie. While he's no Roger Ebert with his movie reviews, he said he enjoyed the movie. It is what it is.

Next from Pixar would be Trains.

The concept is also based on what is easily Pixar's worst movie.

Oh, and apparently there's a sequel in the works set to come out next year (Planes: Fire and Rescue). Not sure if the box office will dictate if that will be scrapped (or perhaps go DTV), but one can hope.

While it might not be great, all of the friends I have with kids saw it this weekend. Their kids liked it, that's all they said.

After Trains, maybe they're building up to an Avengers-like thing combining everything.

Cars and planes that talk...Hasbro should have sued Pixar back to the stone age when Cars first came out. It's the kiddie version of Transformers.

I wasn't aware Hasbro held the trademark for anthropomorphic vehicles

Re: Planes ? Seriously ?

Actually didn't Disney do some cartoons that had cars being alive in some form? I remember them having faces and whatnot. I think Lasseter even spoke about it in one of the features on Cars.

Re: Planes ? Seriously ?

Disney has been doing cartoons featuring "live" vehicles since the 1940s.

Re: Planes ? Seriously ?

That's what I thought. Somehow those car cartoons didn't pop for me when I grew up. It was standard Mickey and crew cartoons for me when it came to Disney. I was more a Looney Tunes kid.

You've got to be kidding me? What the hell was so bad about Cars? Granted the sequel wasn't that great, but the first one?

Re: Planes ? Seriously ?

I like the first one. Though it is their weakest one. Granted I haven't seen Cars 2, Brave, or MU. Just pretty standard narrative and didn't push the storytelling to anywhere unique.

I didn't realize there were talking planes in Brave.

Shee-it, look at all three of the "Cars" fans taking issue with it being named the worst.
