Turbo opened yesterday to $5.8m, edging out Despicable Me 2 by roughly $0.2m. A lot of discussion going on over how poorly Red 2, RIPD, and Turbo have all been tracking. I'm curious to see how it plays out.

R.I.P.D. ($130m Budget), Red 2 (More than $58m but no idea what), Turbo ($135m) and The Conjuring ($12m) go wide this weekend. Girl Most Likely and Only God Forgives go limited. The Major Theater Chain Tracking has estimates at:

Conjuring is going to be pretty huge considering the budget. It'll make it back at least two-fold by Monday.

I agree, I won't be overly surprised if low budget Conjuring takes the weekend. It should do well.

How did WHITE HOUSE DOWN end up with a $150 million budget? Esp. with those stars. Who in their right mind thought that was a sure bet? Esp. since a competing film with the same subject matter beat it into theaters.

Emmerich has pull. Like the guy or not, his "original" ideas sell - The Day After Tomorrow ($125m budget) grossed $600m worldwide, 2012 ($200m budget) grossed nearly $780m worldwide, ID4 ($75m budget) grossed over $800m worldwide.

Even 10,000 BC ($105m budget), as epically awful as it was, made nearly $270m worldwide. His only realy "flop" has been Anonymous (2011), which only had a $30m budget. And outside of ID4, he usually doesn't have big name stars headlining his movies (Will Smith wasn't an established star so much but his star power was rising, quickly, back then.)

Both Summit and Universal should be fuckin' smacked for releasing comic book films on the same weekend as Comic Con. Summit should then be slapped a second time for releasing Red 2 in the midst of the summer heat. This is a film that would've done well at the end of the summer or in the fall, you know, like the last one. Universal should be slapped a second time for even green-lighting R.I.P.D..

Poor Robert Schwentke, passed on Red 2 to make a different piece of shit instead. :lol:

The Conjuring is going to be number one. You can all go home now.

RichC2, just looking at your BO report just shows how lackluster this summer has been. No wonder more and more theaters are doing discount days/weeks.

I agree. In my opinion, Red 2 should have been a November release.

I also anticipate The Conjuring cleaning up.

I just saw Despicable Me 2, and have to say it's worth every penny it's making. Great summer movie (right behind ST Into Darkness, as my favorite of 2013 so far).

R.I.P.D. looks awful. I wonder if it'll be the Summer's "Jonah Hex". I expect The Conjuring to be #1 and Despicable Me 2 should end up #2 on the worldwide list after its run.
