Lone Survivor

Unlike the DVD Talk Reviewer, I thought it was pretty damn good. Very gritty war movie with some harsh brutality in it.

Delicatessen - A great French dark comedy mixed in with some post apocalyptic and vintage (50's, maybe) flourishes. I wouldn't call it steampunk (City of Lost Children fits that mold much better), though. It's the feature film debut of Jean Pierre-Juenet (Amelie, A Very Long Engagement, City of Lost Children) and Marc Caro. Very highly recommended!

Ugetsu- Famous Japanese art house movie about ghosts, greed, and lost in feudal Japan. Beautiful, poetic, and haunting story, shot with a beautifully fluid camera. A very well-regarding our house movie, and it must be said that it's easy to see where it's reputation comes from.

It might have actually been entertaining . Woo would have a blast with that kind of setting, imagine his "gun fu" destroying the White House.

Mainstream Woo's one exception is a pretty big one though-Face/Off is one of his very best films, and one of the best action movies of the last 15 years, IMO. It's a shame pretty much all of his other American movies were terrible.

I can't watch Face/Off anymore. It's horribly dated. In fact, I think Hard Target is a better film that also kept much more of his trademark style than Face/Off did. I wish we could get the UNRATED version of HT on BD. I know the UK DVD was uncut but it went out of print a while ago.

Samurai Cop (1989)

After such a busy week, I needed that amount of hilarity.

A Single Shot - Sam Rockwell leads a pretty cool ensemble cast in this dark noir-slow burn flick. I enjoyed it.

It's a little pricey, but the (recent) German Blu-Ray release contains the International Cut. It's locked Region B though.

The UK DVD can still be had very cheap, but (unlike the R1 release) it's non-Anamorphic. The UK BD also was released last year, which Region Free and the International Cut.

The To Do List. I liked this. Interesting seeing Aubrey Plaza play against her usual type. A female version of a goofy sex comedy. Pretty raunchy but no nudity, it was a strange juxtaposition. Recommended.

Nice. I'm region free, so looks like I'll be getting the UK version.

Midnight Son - 3.5/5

A man with a skin disorder that is sensitive to sunlight lives an isolated life. One day he meets a woman and falls for her and at the same time he starts to develop a craving for blood.
Good indie film that is less Dracula and more like Ferrara's The Addiction & Romero's Martin.

I haven't read the review, but (Aside from the Holywoodized climax) I liked it as well. Kinda like the Black Hawk Down of the 2010's. But this one has been lingering more in my mind than BHD did.

Amelie - a move that charms me every time I see it and makes me feel better about the world. One of the great movies ever in my view.

Public Enemies - 4/5

An FBI agent is determined to catch Public Enemy #1 John Dillinger. Another good underrated film from Michael Mann.

Love Public Enemies. I also enjoyed Stephen Lang's almost silent performance in the film. Those eyes…he was intense!
