Woodshock (2017)
Beautifully shot film that ultimately feels very aimless.

Teen Titans Go! to the Movies (2018) – Entertaining enough with some fun spoofing of superhero movies and a decent enough, if not predictable plot (to be fair, they don't try hard to disguise it). Not a fan of the TV series itself, but an okay way to spend 80-minutes. 3.25/5
The Big Lebowski (1998) - Second time seeing it and although I'm not as big of a fan, I did love Jeff Bridges' and John Goodman's performances and the catchy lines. I pity anyone named Donny... 4.0/5

Patient Zero (2018) — Starts off well enough before devolving into the same old, same old from the tired zombie horror genre. Can see why this sat on shelves for a few years. 2.5/5

Salvation (2015)
Danish western with Mads Mikkelsen ("Le Chiffre" from James Bond Casino Royale) and Eva Green. A man whose wife and kid were brutally murdered by two thugs fresh out of jail gets revenge by killing them. But little did he know that one of them was brother to big shot racketeer who 'owns' the town nearest his ranch. All hell breaks loose when said racketeer extracts his vengeance on the weak down. But the danish desperado will rise...
Well-done but very thin plot and nothing we haven't seen before.

Psycho (1960)
I started a cineclub at my son's high school and I chose this as the opening film. Still a wonderful film but it's also very slow to get going by today's standards. I could see a few students getting bored before the shower scene. And then everything picks up and they (mostly) liked it.

Midnight Movie (2008)
One in a zillion low budget horror films that thinks it will reinvent the genre. Here a group of people is stranded inside a movie theater showing an old horror film whose director went crazy and killed everyone and ended in a nut house. Well, guess what, he has just recently escaped from said asylum and shows up at the theater and ... kills everyone! The twist here (unexplained) is that its the film itself that is "evil".

Le président (1961)
Excellent french political film by Henri Verneuil with major star Jean Gabin. About a retired president who 20 years down the line will do anything to stop his old upstart assistant from getting his old job. Clever dialogues by Michel Audiard and interesting tractations throughout. Adapted from a book by Simenon.

The Clash: Westway to the World (2000)
Uninspired documentary but great story of awesome punk-rock band with political edge. Still some of the best music/lyrics to come out of the punk movement. Joe Strummer is sorely missed. The band was worth a better film though...

Netflix rental. Love Kate McKinnon. The expressions she gives has me laughing before she even says anything. I thought this was funny and very entertaining. I thought the action got a little too gritty for a comedy. My wife who doesn't like shoot-em-ups went to bed. It was too much for her.

Dreamcatcher (2003)
Watchable but forgettable Stephen King adaptation. A group of 4 friends were given a gift of telepathy by an extra-terrestrial as kids and now, in their adulthood, go to their cabin in the woods but are forced to fight an alien presence.

Westworld (1973)
Futureworld (1976)
Pair of 70s scifi adapted (and directed in the first case) from a Michael Crichton book. West is certainly the more interesting with nice slow development of story and spooky ambiance. It probably would have improved with a better director.
Tells the story of a historical theme park where rich tourists can go and pretend they are cowboys (or medieval knights or decadent Romans) and fight the bad guys who are in fact high tech robots. But the robots go berserk and start killing the tourists instead!
Follow up is a waste of time with nothing new and just rehash of the same old ideas. They even brought back Yul Brynner's character of killer robot for a cheesy dream sequence.

Big Eyes (2015)
Decent Tim Burton true story of 50s painter (Margaret Keane) who had her work stolen by her husband who pretended it was his and made a fortune of it.
Well done but I can see why it didn't catch as its not very burtonish and his fans probably thought it was too 'normal'.
Still, decent (sad) story and film.

Kingsley and the girl were great in this movie. Maybe the ending might not be that satisfying.

Slender Man (2018) — Not sure the last time a 90-minute movie felt so long. Also never thought I would see a movie that almost makes me appreciate Truth or Dare. Congratulations Slender Man, you did it. 0/5

The Meg (2018) — Big budget SyFy movie, with decent visual effects, starring Jason Statham. Certainly some dumb moments but fun though also scenes that just were plain dumb. For the most part still enjoyed it as I am a fan of Jason Statham especially in these type of films. 3.25/5

Single White Female (1992) — Single White Female did for roommates what Jaws did for sharks. Effective thriller that thrives more on the two leads rather than the actual story. 3.75/5

Hell Fest (2018)
Safe, easily digestible Slasher film.
Nothing I'd revisit or recommend. Tops Blood Fest (2018) another film released this year with a similar premise.
