That was a bit of nasty business there and caught me off guard.

Argo - 3.5/5: Pretty good movie. I didn't know anything about the real events so I was pretty enthralled throughout the picture. The opening is pretty intense. The acting is all great, especially Cranston and Goodman. The direction is top notch and Affleck appears to be getting better with each film. I await his next effort.

The Sessions- I need to revise my top 10 of 2012, as this movie is in the top 3 for certain. It was by far the funniest movie that was made last year. John Hawkes should've received Bradley Cooper's Oscar nomination.

Billy Bathgate - 2.5/5

Only worth watching for Dustin Hoffman's portrayal of Dutch Schultz.

The Raven

Interesting premise, but it's kinda of dull. Cusak is good, not great. Luke Evans is a poor man's Michael Shannon. Some decent kills, nothing spectacular. Can't say I'd watch it again, but an interesting revisionist take on Poe's final days.

Ted - about like I expected. Basically just a feature length, live action version of Family Guy. I chuckled a few times but nothing I need to revisit again.

Sinister...some effective jumps, but lackluster delivery.

Re: Last movie you watched

Sinister - Sort of agree with scott. I like a slow-burn horror film as much as the next guy, but there was a lot of mythology building and little payoff. Plus, who didn't know that ending was coming? But they had Ulver on the soundtrack, so I automatically love the film for that. It certainly sets a chilling mood.

Re: Last movie you watched

Hit and Run - .5/5: After seeing the first trailer I said that this looked really dumb. I wasn't wrong. This film is an incoherent mess. The "laughs" that the makers went for were not remotely funny. The acting is bad. The directing is bad. The story is bad. It's just all around bad.

Killing Them Softly

I really liked this. It's such an odd, uncharacteristic look at criminal activity. I was reminded of Thief a bit, more so in substance than style. Great cast; fantastic camera work during some of the hits. This would've made my top 10 for 2012.

Re: Last movie you watched

The Godfather Part III- While nowhere in the league of the first two films, I really enjoy this movie. My main complaint is that the characters introduced here are generic and forgettable, and the plot becomes almost impossible to follow fully in the second half. Sofia Coppola authored the textbook example for bad acting in this movie.

Re: Last movie you watched

Side Effects - Steven Soderbergh claims that this will be his last theatrical film...I hope not. Anyways, great film, in my opinion. Cast was top notch, especially Law and Mara. I love thrillers with plot twists and revelations, so this movie was my cup of tea. The best film I've seen so far this year, for sure. This year has been downright terrible for film so far, though.
