I love that documentary. I think I'm going to have to pull the trigger on the $30 BD from the official site. Highly recommended for any past or present fan of gaming.

Re: Last movie you watched

Death Rides a Horse - Got to see an original 35mm print of this at the AFI Theatre in Silver Spring, MD last night. I forgot how much I love 35mm prints, the scratches and blemishes add to the experience and remind you that this print has traveled around. The movie was great, love me some Lee Van Cleef. I wanted to rewatch a sequence, so I found it on Netflix and turned it on. It was then that I realized how many shots or 10 second chuncks on the movie were missing from the print and why digital projection isn't that bad either.

SIDE EFFECTS

reminiscent of hitchcock and polanski. soderbergh knocks this one out of the park. just a very tight and well crafted thriller. great performances all around. 4/5

The Master

Everyone involved is one. Anderson's direction, Phoenix & Hoffman as actors, Greenwood's score; it's a tour de force and one fantastic film.

Re: Last movie you watched

Cosmopolis - ??/5: I'm still digesting this one. I need to give it a second watch. I'm conflicted about how I feel about it. The film comes off as some kind of pretentious stage play but I feel like there's something more to it. It's very strange and I found it hard to follow the dialogue. It flows very much like a dream which is cool but also frustrating at the same time. The performances seem somewhat wooden but I think this was done intentionally. Some of the CG is particularly distracting. I imagine this is a film that will get better over time.

The Sessions - 2.5/5: The film is successful for what it is though I have no urge to revisit it. Hawkes gives a really good performance but there is only so much that he can do in the part. I've never been a fan of Helen Hunt and she is merely serviceable in her role. The film is competently handled but it still feels a little empty.

The Imposter- There was something about this documentary that was sleazy and that I plain didn't like. I can't pinpoint it. Very interesting story and everything was well done, but I would've burned this movie if I had blind bought it, as was my original intention.

Re: Last movie you watched

The Master - 4/5: Great flick. This film is wonderfully shot and exceptionally beautiful. The plot may be a little thin but it's okay because everything is executed masterfully. The film flows dreamlike and is sometimes hard to follow but it works for the story once you understand the lead character. The acting is all great but Phoenix is absolutely wonderful and at the top of his game; he will have a hard time ever topping this one. Others have complained that this movie has no story but I think it had a wonderful story that made perfect sense to me. This is not a movie about a crazy religion (though it has a large place in the story) it's about a man adjusting to life after WWII.

Re: Last movie you watched

Red Lights- This movie is a tale of two halves, with the second pretty much ruining the first. Great cast though (Robert De Niro, Sigourney Weaver, Cillian Murphy, Elizabeth Olsen, and Toby Jones).

Monsieur Verdoux
A huge letdown. Nothing interesting didn't happen untill the 90-minute mark.

Serena The Sexplorer
Yessie Sanchez

Starstruck
Meh. This made me want to quickly revisit The Apple

Black Death
Kind of a weak ending, but I was very much into this all the way through.

A Dangerous Method

This is what I love about movies - the topic seemed a little dry for my tastes, but I love Cronenberg and the leading cast so I wanted to see it regardless. Everyone was fantastic, proving that the right cast & crew can make almost anything enjoyable. Fassbender and Viggo performed as perfectly as I expected, but it was Knightley who kinda stole the show. I don't think I've ever seen her this good. Never really feels like a Cronenberg movie, but his mastery of direction is evident.

Re: Last movie you watched

'Silver City' - Errol Flynn is one of the best ever. Not one of his best films, but I've watched it at least three times and enjoy it each time. Great supporting cast.

'Smashed' - this is a terrific film. Winstead is fantastic, Pinkman is good, Offerman can act, he is against type in this, and it's a natural performance.

'Only Angels Have Wings' - one of the best films ever made in America. I've watched it at least a dozen times.

'The Warrior' - I haven't watched this for years, it was even better the second time. Gorgeous film.

Dead Man - 4.5/5

Jim Jarmusch's excellent anti-western. Johnny Depp needs to get away from Tim Burton & Hollywood and do more stuff like this.

Re: Last movie you watched

Once Upon a Time In America- Sergio Leone again delivers a better movie about America than most of our own directors. Fantastic performances all around (especially De Niro and Woods), and you have to admire Ennio Morricone's score. I hope to one day see the 4 1/2 hour original cut.
