My daughter is home after a year in S Korea teaching so we were headed to the movies to see Capt. America. Unfortunately the previous night was the last time for the 6:40 show so we ended up seeing X-Men. Didn't really matter, I just wanted to have a little father-daughter time.

She loved the experience. She loved the country. She loved the kids. Also got to travel to Japan and Thailand. Her one complaint was that she was working in a private school that had very long school days. Their school days go til 5 o'clock and she was usually there by 7 so the days were long for teaching. She has applied to start a masters program in Scotland in the fall. If that doesn't come together she'll go back to S Korea for another year.

I enjoyed it. It's not quite original and some pacing issues, but quite a few of the set-pieces were worth the price of admission for me. I would give it a rent if you aren't 100% sure (after watching the trailer).

The Finest Hours...didn't resonate with me at all. i kept comparing it to the far superior The Perfect Storm. Pine and Affleck seemed like they were posturing in some scenes. taking an extra moment, a look, subtle, but didn't work.

Entertaining, but mostly forgettable.

Wife gave up immediately. I found some humorous parts but didn't find it particularly good. Will not revisit it. I would give it a C just becauise of the talent involved.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid - 3/5
Not as great as many claim it to be. Tries a bit too hard to be funny and cutesy. The corny 'Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head' sequence and the awful soundtrack don't help. Give me Once Upon a Time in the West or The Wild Bunch anytime.

They always change a few things in these movies from the actual history but whatever the changes were, they didn't affect the entertainment value. That dude was a sick fuck. Nice doc in the extras on the hunt for the real whitey bulger.

Fundamentals of Caring (Netflix): One of those comedy dramas where people make good out of numerous shitty situations. Has a recycled plot and follows an emotions checklist, but it's a really solid feel good movie for a rainy day. Recommended.

In spite of Bay's less than subtle style I give this one a solid B. I noticed more exposition here than in the theater but it was still a good war flick.

Not sure why I rented this since I usually don't if they get less than a 6 on IMDB. Great actors giving good performances but the movie itself offered nothing new to the genre and was very slow moving.
