Saw this in 3D last night and loved it. Solid 4 star film.
Aside from some depth in the slo-mo scenes, the 3D didn't add much. I'm sure it plays just as well in 2D.
Urban was just awesome. The scowl, the walk, the attitude... he totally nailed it.
Thirlby sure is one HPOA. I was a little worried that such a cute chick wouldn't work well as his partner here, but she held her own and served a purpose. I didn't know about her abilities before seeing the film, so that was a cool angle. It sure came in handy on more than one occasion.
I remember reading an interview with Heady where she described MaMa as being like a great white shark, and I think that's a fairly spot-on observation. Her casual attitude toward brutality was pretty chilling. Loved the makeup.
It's a shame this is tanking. I would love to see a sequel or two with this same cast/crew. There's no pretense here; just a hard-hitting, no frills, uncompromisingly brutal slice of violent cinema. I can't wait to see it again on BD.

are you kidding? I completely disagree - the 3D element was used to excellent amazing effect - I think it would be a crime to see it in 2D. I think I uttered 'wow' at least ten times during the movie. The last movie that elicited an reaction like that was 'Step Up 3D' (the third film).

Enjoyed Dredd. Didn't cream my pants but that's fine. Felt the action was fine but missed that fun aspect like someone said earlier. I've never read the comics but it seemed to be missing a satirical aspect. A movie about a character who can and does take the law into his own hands and is set in a dystopian future just seems like it should be knee deep in the satire. Oh, well. And regarding The Raid, The Raid mops the floor with this. The Raid does get a tad repetitive during the end fight but there was an excitement and a danger, something this film lacked to me. Third best action movie this year behind The Avengers and The Raid. But those were really fantastic movies so this is really good. Liked the small setting but felt that a sequel sounded really exciting so that we could further delve into this world. I guess there won't be a sequel so time to look for the comics.

Huh? Considering Dredd is just a "a day in the life of" tale, it's loaded with satire.

There is a little but not enough for me I guess. That's why I said it wasn't knee deep. More like a little puddle. It seemed more like a straight up action movie . There's not much on its mind than the need to entertain but it works on that level. I just wanted more satire, that's all.

Dredd had a 30% increase from Monday to Tuesday and was in 4th place. Word of mouth starting to get around?

While less common with R rated movies, a 30% bump is pretty typical from Monday to Tuesday. Trouble with the Curve had a 44.8% bump, House at the End of the Street had a 54% bump.

Please do. When awesome films like this are allowed to die in theaters, we can't then complain more awesome films aren't made.

Saw this at a matinee today (just one other person in the theater). Amazing flick. Gritty, naturalistic, a distinct and refreshing lack of "Hollywood" moments and action movie cliches. Beautiful effects, too. I may see this again in the theater, and that's very rare for me.
Did anyone else notice that Ma-ma's computer guru guy was listening to the theme song from the Bristish TV comedy Snuffbox (written and performed by Matt Berry) for some reason? Twice, even.

Saw Dredd 3D again. Still badass. It was a college Thursday..so...$3.50.
Also..I paid close attention to that bit w/ the blood cover over the ratio. The ratio isn't changed..exactly. They just cut off a bit of the bottom, leaving the top part unchanged, to let the blood fly over. Neat.
