Re: A Good Day To Die Hard
Wow. This has changed from something I wanted to see as a single guy on Valentine's Day night to something I will maybe wait until Netflix to watch. I waited until Good Day to Die Hard was on HBO and was pleasantly surprised. I was one of the "no way it could still be a good one with a PG-13" naysayers. Since I have already broken my seeing these movies in the theater streak, no need to resume it for something that is mediocre simply because it's rated R.

9 reviews in, and ZERO PERCENT FRESH so far.
Let's see if this movie can end up being 0% fresh in the long run. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/a_good_day_to_die_hard/ GAH! 6 PERCENT FRESH! There goes the ZERO. Darn you, Rick Bentley of the Fresno Bee!!! |

Re: A Good Day To Die Hard
Good lord. I expect later installments in action franchises to not be up to par, but this looks like they didn't even try to make it measure up to the others.

Re: A Good Day To Die Hard
I saw DIE HARD on video and wished I'd seen it in a theater. I saw DIE HARD 2 on opening night and wished I'd waited till cable. I saw DIE HARD 3 on cable and wished I hadn't wasted my time. That was it for me.
|
Re: A Good Day To Die Hard
Actually, now that I remember it, I only saw Die Hard II and III in the theater. So...no streak concerns for me. :)
|
Re: A Good Day To Die Hard
I saw Die Hard 1-2 on VHS. Die Hard with a Vengeance I saw as a matinee for $3.50 back in the good old days. I saw Live Free or Die Hard in theatres as well.
Still going to see A Good Day to Die Hard with my $10 coupon. Keeping the streak alive. |

So this will be as bad as Bullet To The Head and The Last Stand according to the critics? Hot damn, I can't wait to see it.

Considerably worse, since those finished with 49 and 59 ratings on RT. Die Hard is sitting at a spectacular 9% right now.
....I betcha Roger Ebert is go against the norm, give this a crazy three-star review, and kill the losing streak. |

Re: A Good Day To Die Hard
If it's truly as bad as the critics are saying than that's a damn shame. Making a winning Die Hard movie seems like one of the easiest movies to make. Find a story with terrorists coming up with a bait-and-switch robbery, throw in a wisecracking McClane, add some blood, toss in a few f-bombs among McClane's one-liners and you've succeeded. Really how hard is that?
|
Re: A Good Day To Die Hard
And it actually looked slightly better than the previous one... what a shame
|
Re: A Good Day To Die Hard
Yes, how can a movie with outdated stereotypical Russian bad guys possibly be bad? Why didn't they make the terrorists crazy Muslims and have a shot of McClane punching an effigy Allah as he delivers his "Yippe Kai-Yay" line? That would generate attention.

Who didn't see this coming? This was going to be dreadful from the get go. The trailers only confirmed that fact. I called this quite a few pages ago... but go ahead and hate on me. I'm used to it. :)

(That line alone dates the first one like no other....) How about the price of gas as Al Powell drives past a station. 74 cents (for UNleaded. 77 for leaded). Remember leaded gas and gas under 75 cents??? |
Re: A Good Day To Die Hard
I saw DIE HARD and A FISH CALLED WANDA on the same day, in August of 1988, two weeks before leaving for college. Still my favorite movie day of all time. There was once a time when big Hollywood summer movies had more on their minds then just "blowin' shit up" or "poopy humor". Now get off my lawn! *shakes fist*

Re: A Good Day To Die Hard
So suddenly reviews don't matter for "films like this?" The last one that every DH fan apparently hated managed 81% on RT. Think this one will reach half of that? I didn't think so.... I suspect much of the hate was because of the rating. Well, a rating doesn't mean squat. We've just found that out with this film. A good PG-13 film, in spite of audio glitches, beats a bad R-rated film any day. |
Re: A Good Day To Die Hard
I'm going to see this tomorrow...reviews be damned!

Re: A Good Day To Die Hard
It sucks. It doesn't suck. It kinda sucks but in a good way. Whatever.
I just wanna know if we're gonna get a fifth verse to this song: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/OTyw6cq86kY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Re: A Good Day To Die Hard
Never thought this movie would be great, but I'm surprised the reviews are this bad. So far. But they are truly beating a dead horse with this franchise. Willis is pushing it with his age. And like Stallone and Schwarzenegger, all need to know when it's time to pass the torch on action films. When they are the main star.
