It seems like a no brainer to me. They already set up her character with Live Free or Die Hard and Winstead seems to be slowly picking up steam as a star. Why bring in some virtually unknown schlub for part 5 to play McClane's kid when the new character would be the same as the already established character?

Live Free was tied up in development hell because of 9/11. Same reason True Lies 2 never got the green light. The story was tweaked and whatnot in the end but I don't think they had a hard time hammering out a story.

I haven't seen the movies in a little while but did they ever mention that McClane had a son?

Interesting development with who's playing son. At least from the pic it looks like they'll have him man up. I find this interesting since Justin Long's character was originally conceived as John McClane's son. Lucy was the result of one of several rewrites.

Like..in DH1 we saw the kids. I....I don't remember DH2 really. and for DH3 I don't remember any mention of them aside from the wife being on the phone. And....DH4...can't remember any mention of the son.

Yeah. All the Die Hard movies are pretty much in real time, so they're about 8 hours of John McClane's life over the span of 20 years. Considering he has other things on his mind (at least in the first three), it makes sense that he doesn't talk about them much, if at all.

Now if it were like the 7 Up series and we were now on 35 Up and we see a person who was skipped for like 3 installments, then that would be worth knowing.
