Was the opening scene a direct lift from the first X-Men movie?

One thing I didn't like upon further reflection was Shaw wearing the helmet around for half the movie. Made it really anticlimactic when Magneto put it on. Having this movie be basically his origin story I think it would have worked out better for the helmet to be one of the big reveals at the end.

It was shot pretty similar, but I don't think it was a direct lift.
Spoiler:
They used a different kid so that he could do the additional scenes of Magneto as a child.

I think it's a mix of new and old.

Re: X-Men: First Class (Vaughn, 2011) — The Reviews Thread

Enjoyed it. Fassbender made the movie for me.

But here are my gripes with the flick:
Spoiler:
The Hugh Jackson cameo was cool but it threw me off a bit that Xavier and Magneto would immediately turn and walk right out after Jackson's line. I wouldn't expect for them to give up so easily and it took me right out of the movie.

And as Solid Snake mentioned earlier, I wished the fallout between Charles and Erik was saved for a sequel. I would've preferred that they spent more time building up their friendship in this one and stayed allies at the end of this flick. So the next one is gonna be, what, X vs Magneto, or X and Magneto teaming up to battle a bigger adversary? It feels like they're gonna have to retread the previous movies already. And Xavier in the wheelchair? Couldn't they have done that some time down the line instead?

Saw it. Loved it. My favorite of the X-Men movies, and one of my favorite comic book movies ever. I'd put it just behind the Christopher Nolan Batman movies.

As I said earlier, this one pretty much invalidates X3 and the Wolverine movies. I think the
Spoiler:
Wolverine cameo
was meant to kind of give the others a nod, but say they are going in their own direction.

If they make a sequel, I hope they go with Apocalypse or The Sentinels.

Yeah really enjoyed this one a lot... Thought the scenes between Fassbender and McAvoy made this but also enjoyed the early scenes with Lawrence and McAvoy as well. Sure parts were cheesy, but I think that broke up a lot of the seriousness of it as well so I can live with those scenes. Definitely my fav of the Xmen series and interested to see where they take it from here.

I really thought this one was great, loved all the little nods there. Very well done.

No, they are brothers. Their power also increases in each others presence.

Not to mention Rebecca Romijn's. During the scene where Magneto tells Mystique (while she's in his bed) "Maybe when you're a few years older", and she morphs into Rebecca Romijn (who played the character in the other X films) saying "How about now?".

This is not a photo of Ms. Lawrence before the weights were dropped on her, but she does look like she's been doing some heavy working out.

That's because her next major staring role is as Katniss Everdeen in the film version of The Hunger Games - just in case anyone was unaware.

Not behind Nolan's movies, beside them. This film was fantastic. Loved every single minute. I want a sequel to it NOW!

I dunno about that. There were a lot of clumsy moments. I'm not some Nolan fanboy but...First Class, like I said before, had Grade A situations and set ups but later fell to ok/mediocre moments. Coming up w/ names, dialogue, generic music at times etc etc...It was however the most entertaining X film...I give all that credit to Fassbender and McAvoy.

Re: X-Men: First Class (Vaughn, 2011) — The Reviews Thread

Loved it. Better than the 3rd and 1st, and I'll probably end up liking it more than the 2nd in the long run. Origins just didn't happen

There were so many cool mutant power moments. From Magneto tearing up Nazis to Banshee flying to Azazel teleporting into the air and dropping agents, they worked in a whole lot of neat things like that in. I got a real sense of how powerful they really are and that was cool to see.

Just can't say enough good things about it. Nothing disappointed.

Re: X-Men: First Class (Vaughn, 2011) — The Reviews Thread

I liked it as an action movie, but as a pure X-Men movie, I felt it was a bit crappy. The Charles/Erik stuff was good, and Kevin Bacon was a great villain, but the majority of the "first class" was laughably bad to cringeworthy.

Wow. I didn't even catch that. She's not recognizable to me.

Anyway I enjoyed it a lot. I was never a big fan of any of the previous movies--they were ok I guess but nothing special. This one was really fun though. I loved the time period it was set in. Lots of super hot chicks too so that was certainly a plus.

I'm interested a sequel but I'm not sure where they can go with the story without just retreading the originals.

Re: X-Men: First Class (Vaughn, 2011) — The Reviews Thread

If anybody thought this film was anything other than bad then I'm sorry but you seriously either A. have no idea what you're talking about or B. need to watch a LOT more movies, and GOOD ones. Note: saying a movie is bad and saying you liked it is two different things. "Bad" implies you were seriously studying it and determined that a lot of the elements that make a movie good or great were simply not there. Saying you "Liked" it implies that you, for whatever reason, enjoyed sitting through it.

Saw it last night, Solid entertainment! The flow was good and it kept me engaged the whole time. Yes it has flaws but whatever, Xavier and Magneto in bed, Epic!
