^ It's hilarious and actually a damn good original idea.
Of course it can't find distribution in America

now talking about the original...
I've never seen the trailer for the original...I honestly thought something was going on w/ the audio for a bit. Cool trailer.

Snake - watch it. There's really nothing dated, boring, nor challenging about watching it. I know that it's hard to pick up an old movie and watch it sometimes. But Straw Dogs isn't like that. Sam Peckinpah made some timeless flicks. Ballad of Cable Hogue is another one you should check out (though it was really lite entry for Peckinpah's filmography). The Getaway - yea, they were mostly good.

Snake(and everyone else who hasn't seen it) you should give the original film a fair chance. It's a great slow burn film with amazing atmosphere and tension. It's definitely a 'slow' film, but I was never bored with it and found the entire thing captivating since it was so well edited, paced and everything. Just don't expect an action film, and instead a more psychological drama that explodes in the finale. I love the trailer for the original film as well and think it's extremely effective.
MGM is re-releasing the original film on dvd and blu-ray on Sept 6th!

Oh I've already seen it. Aside from some minor things that come off goofy today, it's a fucking fine film. Really wished CC had it on BD...you know..cuz of the features. The new BD doesn't have any good features.

Re: Straw Dogs (2011) - Dir: Rod Lurie, St: James Marsden, Kate Bosworth
I re-watched 'Straw Dogs' about a week or so ago. My wife had never seen it and afterwards she now puts that in her top 10 list of all time. I've always thought it was his best. The editing of the film with the quick cuts is just perfect. Watching it again, I realized how subtle it is at times with certain elements. I had not seen it in about 10 years so it was almost like watching it for the first time in some ways.
Terrific film, the remake will be beyond terrible, I have no doubt. I do plan on seeing it just to see how terrible it truly is.

So they took a complex movie about a wimpy introverted intellectual guy facing not only raging aggressive men, but the complex nature of his wife's sexuality and just remade it into "Die Hard in a Country House" starring a big hunk with glasses. Boring. Not gonna waste my time.

They just remade the original movie, beat for beat, with a few superficial changes. They did nothing to the original source material that merits the response that you just posted whatsoever.

Read a review (Boston Globe...maybe? I dunno) that sated that the Bosworth's rape scene was her best acting ever. Which is weird to say. Anyway...how were those moments? Did Lurie make good on his word?
