Straw Dogs being remade?

I did a search and found nothing. Maybe I did not look hard enough.

But I just found out tonight that this classic is being remade.

It is going to star Edward Norton in the Hoffman role and John Polson (from Swimfan fame) is going to direct.

What do you guys think?

Close if already discussed.

I had Edward Norton was starrring (against his will supposedly) in a remake of The Italian job. Are you sure you're not confusing it with that movie?

Forgot about that. I read the info over at IMDB.

The former website says it will be a loose remake, but still!

Are they doing a true remake of the film or are they going back and reinterpreting the book?

I thought Ed Norton was against remakes, which is why he didn't want to do the Italian Job.

Lame idea. Nothings wrong with the original. You couldn't possibly better it. So you're setting yourself up for disaster.

Considering the first movie was a total snoozefest until the last few minutes, it should be easy to improve.

Are you referring to "Italian Job" or "Straw Dogs"?

In regards to the remake of the "Italian Job" the movie is best seen as the 3 minute condensed 'trailer' version, almost all the surprises are revealed. Edward Norton's character was just plain unconvincing (really disappointing I might add).

Uh...Ok...I guess I still don't get the point based on this single example. What's the difference between a remake and a reinterpretation?

Straw Dogs Remake: Fear Itself

Don't know if anyone has posted this but I just saw fm IMDB the official title for the remake of Pekinpah's Straw Dogs...and it's titled Fear Itself.

It stars Edward Norton (which I think is just great) but it's the director that kind of put me off...John Polson.

His past directorial credit was Swimfan and if you're still wondering who this guy is, then watch Mission: Impossible 2 again. He was the Aussie who was piloting the chopper.
